On the 19th, the city signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with both organizations, officially launching efforts to support the smooth operation of the conference and expand its global research network.
The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Taek-gu, Daejeon City’s Deputy Mayor for Political, Economic, and Scientific Affairs, Yoon Seong-guk, President of the Daejeon Tourism Organization, and Professor Park Jin-ah of KAIST, who leads the Korean Society of Medical Imaging Informatics.
Since its inaugural meeting in 1998, MICCAI has been a world-leading academic conference in the field of medical imaging diagnostics, attracting over 2,500 experts (including approximately 1,500 international participants) from 50 countries specializing in medical image analysis, clinical studies, and medical robotics.
The conference operates on a continental rotation basis, and this marks the first time it will be held in South Korea, adding to its significance.
Daejeon City was confirmed as the host city in December 2021 and has since been meticulously preparing to lay the groundwork for a successful event.
Through this MOU, Daejeon City and the Daejeon Tourism Organization will serve as supporting organizations, assisting with event operations and promotion, while the Korean Society of Medical Imaging Informatics will oversee the conference, jointly promoting South Korea’s and Daejeon’s cutting-edge medical technologies on the global stage.
MICCAI 2025 is scheduled to take place over five days from September 23 to 27 at the Daejeon Convention Center.
Daejeon City anticipates that the event will strengthen connections between medical image analysis, clinical research, and industries such as medical robotics, while also promoting research and development (R&D) of advanced technologies and revitalizing the local biomedical industry.
Lee Taek-gu, Deputy Mayor for Political, Economic, and Scientific Affairs, stated, “Daejeon is a global medical research hub, boasting world-class research infrastructure, the research-oriented KAIST Graduate School of Medical Science and Engineering, and three medical colleges.” He added, “Through this MOU, we aim to successfully host ‘MICCAI 2025,’ positioning Daejeon as a global leader in life-extension technologies and seizing this opportunity to drive innovation and growth in related industries.”
