SEOUL — Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle (EV) brand under China's Geely Holding Group, has marked its fifth anniversary with a historic milestone. The company announced on July 17 that its mid-size electric SUV, the Zeekr 7X, successfully secured a official Guinness World Record, showcasing the brand's cutting-edge performance and engineering prowess on the global stage.
The record-breaking feat took place on June 12 at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Zeekr 7X claimed the title for the "Narrowest Gap Cleared by an Electric Vehicle Drift." During the high-stakes attempt, the electric SUV drifted flawlessly through a precision-engineered gap, leaving a remarkably tight clearance of just 25 centimeters (approximately 9.8 inches) on either side of the vehicle.
The vehicle used to achieve this precision drift was the standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant of the Zeekr 7X. Built on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), the RWD model features a high-performance rear electric motor capable of delivering a maximum output of 421 horsepower (310 kW) and a peak torque of 45 kg·m (440 Nm). Automotive experts noted that achieving such a record in a mid-size SUV—a vehicle segment traditionally known for a higher center of gravity—highlights Zeekr's exceptional chassis tuning, advanced torque vectoring systems, and near-perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
Following its global momentum, the Zeekr 7X is expanding its footprint into international markets, including South Korea, where it is available in two distinct trims: Pro and Max. Both variants cater to different consumer needs regarding battery chemistry and range performance.
Zeekr 7X Pro: This entry-level trim is equipped with Zeekr’s proprietary 75 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) "Golden Battery." It delivers a certified continuous driving range of 375 kilometers (approx. 233 miles) under ambient combined testing conditions. Notably, the Golden Battery features 800V ultra-fast charging capabilities, allowing it to charge from 10% to 80% in just 10.5 minutes, making it one of the fastest-charging mass-produced LFP batteries in the world. The Pro trim is priced competitively at 52.99 million KRW (approx. $39,500 USD).
Zeekr 7X Max: The premium variant upgrades to a larger 100 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) ternary battery pack supplied by CATL. Designed for long-distance travel, it extends the vehicle's driving range up to 483 kilometers (approx. 300 miles) on a single charge. The Max trim is available at 59.99 million KRW (approx. $44,700 USD).
Beyond performance, the Zeekr 7X has been well-received globally for its family-oriented design and advanced safety framework. The vehicle boasts a spacious interior with a 2,925 mm wheelbase, an active air suspension system, and an intelligent cockpit powered by dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chips. For safety, it utilizes a robust hybrid aluminum-steel body structure alongside a comprehensive sensor suite—including LiDAR and dual Nvidia Orin-X chips—to support advanced automated driving capabilities.
"Securing this official Guinness World Records title is a major milestone for Zeekr and the most fitting way to celebrate our brand's fifth anniversary," a Zeekr representative said in a statement. "This achievement stands as a testament to the sheer power, stability, and handling of Zeekr’s proprietary technology. Moving forward, we will continue to redefine the luxury technology segment through relentless innovation and global expansion."
Since its inception, Zeekr has rapidly positioned itself as a formidable competitor to established luxury EV makers. The brand's successful record attempt at the Yas Marina Circuit underscores its strategic focus on the Middle Eastern and Asian-Pacific markets, proving that modern electric SUVs can match—and even exceed—the driving dynamics of traditional internal combustion sports cars.
