Economy Seats Transform into Beds: United Airlines Unveils 'Lie-Flat' Option

United Airlines is set to bridge the gap between business and economy classes with a creative new seating option that allows passengers to stretch out—literally.

The airline officially announced the launch of "United Relax Row," a service designed to transform three adjacent economy seats into a single, seamless sleeping space. Once the aircraft reaches cruising altitude, the leg rests of a three-seat row can be adjusted to create a nearly flat surface, providing a "couch-like" bed for long-haul travelers.

To enhance the experience, passengers booking a Relax Row will be provided with a custom mattress pad, a plush blanket, and two pillows. This move targets travelers who seek more comfort than a standard seat but find the price tag of a full business class pod out of reach.

United plans to roll out this feature starting in 2027, retrofitting approximately 200 of its Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft. Each eligible flight is expected to offer up to 12 Relax Row units.

While the aviation industry is buzzing with excitement, United has yet to confirm whether this service will be available on its popular Incheon-bound routes.
