Orion's iconic Choco Pie has achieved a milestone, selling over 4 billion units in 2024, its 50th anniversary year, marking a record high in sales with 580 billion won in revenue. Since its launch in 1974, the cumulative sales have surpassed 50 billion units, with revenue exceeding 8 trillion won.
With over 30 years of overseas expansion, Choco Pie has solidified its position as a global brand. The company has established local production facilities in China, Vietnam, Russia, and India, and now offers 24 varieties in over 60 countries. Notably, two-thirds of the total sales, amounting to 5.5 trillion won, came from overseas markets, a remarkable feat in the Korean food industry.
Russia stands out as a major consumer, accounting for 40% of global Choco Pie sales with 1.6 billion units sold in 2024 alone. Orion's Russian subsidiary offers 12 varieties, the most among its overseas branches, including products tailored to local tastes with jam fillings. In Vietnam, Choco Pie has become a national favorite, holding the top spot in the local pie market and even being featured in traditional ceremonies.
In India and China, the world's most populous markets, Orion has successfully implemented localization strategies. In India, they introduced unique flavors combining local favorites like strawberries and mangoes. In China, Choco Pie has consistently ranked first in the China Customer Recommendation Index (C-NPS), reflecting high customer trust and loyalty.
Domestically, Orion's seasonal limited-edition Choco Pie products with innovative flavors and designs have consistently sold out.
An Orion spokesperson stated, "Choco Pie is a testament to Orion's advanced confectionery technology and has been a key driver of our global growth. We aim to further expand Choco Pie's reach, sharing the unique Korean sentiment of 'Jeong' (affection) with consumers worldwide."
