SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – The Korea Forest Service (KFS), in collaboration with the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute, successfully highlighted the excellence of Korean timber at the ‘Sydney Build Expo 2025’ held in Sydney, Australia, from May 7th to 8th. The participation, which included the operation of a dedicated Korean Wood Pavilion and export consultations with international buyers, is estimated to have generated potential export deals worth approximately $21.2 million (KRW 29.8 billion), signaling promising new opportunities for the Korean wood industry.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Sydney Build Expo is Australia's largest trade show for the building and construction sector, attracting over 500 companies from around the globe and more than 20,000 industry professionals, making it a key platform in the Oceania region. Recognizing the potential of the Australian market, the KFS supported the participation of four domestic wood companies, enabling them to present their competitive products, including eco-friendly timber and high-quality interior materials.

Over the two-day event, the Korean Wood Pavilion drew the attention of over 1,200 international visitors, demonstrating significant interest in Korean timber. Particularly noteworthy was the positive response from local buyers to the eco-friendliness and superior technology of Korean wood products, aligning with the strong demand for sustainable building materials in the Australian market. The KFS has announced plans to leverage this participation to actively pursue entry into the Australian and broader Oceania markets.

Globally, increasing environmental awareness has led to a consistent rise in demand for eco-friendly and sustainable materials in the construction sector. Wood, a carbon-neutral resource, stands out as a prime example, requiring less energy in its production and effectively storing carbon, thus playing a crucial role in sustainable building practices. The Korean wood industry, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, produces high-quality, environmentally sound wood products, and the expo provided an effective platform to showcase this competitive edge to the international market.

The Korean companies participating in the expo presented a diverse range of products that capitalized on their individual strengths. These included eco-friendly construction materials such as structural glued laminated timber and wooden house materials, as well as high-end interior finishing materials, wooden furniture, and decking materials that featured outstanding design and processing technology. Notably, products utilizing unique Korean wood processing techniques showed the potential to introduce new trends to the Australian market.

The export consultations went beyond mere product introductions, focusing on understanding the specific needs of local buyers and offering customized solutions. This approach fostered the potential for not only short-term export contracts but also the establishment of long-term partnerships. The KFS and the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute intend to continue providing practical support for domestic wood companies seeking to expand into overseas markets through ongoing market research and information sharing.

Nam Song-hee, Director of International Forestry Cooperation at the Korea Forest Service, emphasized, "This expo confirmed that the excellent technology and eco-friendly image of Korean wood products are highly competitive in the Australian market." She further stated, "We will continue to provide comprehensive support for Korean wood companies entering the global market, including tailored market information, support for overseas networking, and the hosting of export consultations."

The proactive support of the KFS and the efforts of Korean wood companies are expected to play a significant role in expanding the presence of the Korean wood industry not only in the Australian market but also in other overseas markets where demand for eco-friendly building materials is growing. With its sustainable value and the warm, natural aesthetic it offers as a building material, the demand for wood is projected to increase further.

The participation in the ‘Sydney Build Expo 2025’ marks a significant step for the Korean wood industry in securing new growth momentum in the global market and establishing a foundation for leading the way in environmentally friendly construction practices. With the continued support of the Korea Forest Service and the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute, and the proactive endeavors of domestic companies, the world will be watching to see the further recognition and growth of Korean wood in the global arena.
