Gyeongbuk-Based Skincare Innovator 'Cure-sing' to Showcase K-Bathing Culture at World Korean Business Convention in Atlanta

Cure-sing, a promising regional enterprise nurtured through Gyeongbuk Province's "Local Change-up" initiative, is set to participate in the prestigious 23rd World Korean Business Convention (WKBC) held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, from April 17th to 20th. This four-day event, a significant networking platform for Korean business leaders worldwide since its inception in 2002, is jointly hosted by the Overseas Koreans Agency, the Korean American Chamber of Commerce USA, and various overseas Korean economic organizations.

Cure-sing stands out as a prime success story of the Gyeongbuk Local Change-up project, a program launched in 2023 to foster innovative local creators and businesses leveraging regional resources and culture. The initiative provides comprehensive support, encompassing local business school operation, seed funding for promising trainees, and assistance in public relations, marketing, and market penetration.

A selected enterprise of the 2024 Gyeongbuk Local Change-up program, Cure-sing is poised to introduce its flagship product, "Ttaemigo," a modern reinterpretation of Korea's unique bathing culture, to the American market. "Ttaemigo" is a specialized exfoliating washcloth crafted from rayon (artificial silk or "in-gyeon" in Korean), a material known for its soft texture and excellent exfoliation properties. The product has undergone rigorous skin irritation testing, ensuring a gentle yet effective way to remove dead skin cells.

Distinguishing itself from conventional bath products, Ttaemigo boasts a unique material and contemporary design, seamlessly blending practicality with aesthetic appeal. Prior to its foray into the US market, Ttaemigo has already garnered positive reception from domestic consumers through its presence in select retail spaces, including Muji's "Connecting Market," the "Focus on Gyeongbuk" pop-up store in Seongsu-dong, and the renowned lifestyle shop "Nemone." These appearances have served as a testament to the product's quality and market viability.

The World Korean Business Convention presents a significant opportunity for Cure-sing to not only introduce its innovative Ttaemigo exfoliating washcloth but also to promote the unique tradition of K-bathing culture to a global audience. The company aims to highlight the benefits of rayon as a gentle yet effective exfoliating material and showcase the modern design elements of the Ttaemigo product line.

Jeong Seong-hyun, Director-General of Gyeongbuk Province's Local Era Policy Bureau, lauded Cure-sing as an "exemplary case of a local business expanding into the global market through the modern adaptation of a regional resource." He further affirmed the province's commitment to supporting other Gyeongbuk-based enterprises in their endeavors to enter the international marketplace by capitalizing on the region's rich resources and cultural heritage.

The participation of Cure-sing in the WKBC underscores the potential of regional initiatives like the Gyeongbuk Local Change-up program in nurturing local talent and driving economic growth by enabling businesses to reach international markets. Cure-sing's innovative approach to a traditional practice positions it well for success in the global beauty and personal care market, and its journey serves as an inspiration for other local businesses with aspirations for international expansion.
