A recent report by Palo Alto Networks, a leading cybersecurity firm in the United States, has revealed that DeepSeek, a Chinese AI model known for its cost-effectiveness and global popularity, is highly susceptible to "jailbreaking" attacks. This revelation has sparked concerns within the AI industry, with analysts suggesting that DeepSeek could become a ticking time bomb for cyberattacks.   

What is "Jailbreaking"?

Jailbreaking refers to a hacking technique that bypasses the security and ethical restrictions set by an AI system, allowing it to perform malicious tasks. This concept originated in the early 2000s with Unix, a server operating system. Initially, jailbreaking was primarily associated with activities like using unauthorized features on devices like Apple iPhones. However, with the rapid advancement of the AI industry, jailbreaking has evolved into a serious threat.

As DeepSeek's user base grows, the potential for widespread disruption and misuse increases significantly.

The threat of AI jailbreaking extends beyond information theft. Experts warn that state-sponsored hackers are already leveraging AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini to refine phishing techniques and develop malware.
