Berlin, Germany – The Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) announced a portion of its 75th edition program today, featuring a diverse lineup of films from acclaimed directors like Richard Linklater, Michel Franco, and Hong Sang Soo competing for the coveted Golden Bear award.

The festival, set to run from February 13th to 23rd, will showcase 19 films from 26 countries in its prestigious Competition section.

Notable entries include Linklater's "Blue Moon," a biographical drama starring Ethan Hawke and Margaret Qualley, which explores the life and struggles of songwriter Lorenz Hart. Another intriguing contender is Mary Bronstein's "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You," featuring an unconventional cast including rapper ASAP Rocky, actress Rose Byrne, and talk show host Conan O'Brien.

The festival will also feature Hollywood stars such as Timothée Chalamet, Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, and Margaret Qualley in various screenings.

This year, the Berlinale is under new leadership with Tricia Tuttle as the first female director. Acknowledging the controversy surrounding the 2024 edition, which saw criticism of the Israeli government, Tuttle emphasized the festival's focus on artistic expression and open dialogue.

"The Berlinale is about more than politics," Tuttle stated, "We want to create a space where filmmakers can express themselves freely and where audiences can engage with diverse perspectives."

Tuttle acknowledged the concerns raised by filmmakers from Arab countries and pledged to foster open conversations and ensure a platform for diverse voices.

The Berlinale recently announced the inclusion of Bong Joon Ho's highly anticipated sci-fi film "Mickey 17," starring Robert Pattinson, as a special gala screening outside of the competition.

The festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of cinema, showcasing a wide range of films and fostering important discussions within the industry.
