Hyundai Motor Group and Samsung SDI have announced a partnership to jointly develop high-performance batteries for robots. The collaboration aims to leverage the expertise of both companies to create batteries optimized for the unique demands of robotics applications.

Currently, most robots in industrial settings utilize batteries designed for power tools or electric vehicles. However, these batteries often fall short in terms of power output and efficiency due to the diverse structures and energy requirements of different robots.

To address this challenge, Hyundai Motor Group and Samsung SDI will focus on designing batteries that maximize energy density within the available space of each robot. This will involve developing high-capacity materials and optimizing battery design for enhanced efficiency.

Hyundai Motor Group's robotics lab will play a crucial role in evaluating the performance of the new batteries and ensuring they meet the stringent requirements of robotic applications. Their expertise in robotics technology will be instrumental in assessing battery performance, lifespan, and charging capabilities.

Samsung SDI, with its advanced battery technology, will focus on developing high-energy-density materials and optimizing battery design to enhance efficiency. The collaboration will leverage Samsung SDI's expertise in battery technology to create batteries that meet the unique needs of robots.

The partnership extends beyond technology development, with both companies planning joint marketing efforts to promote their new robot batteries. Notably, Hyundai Motor Group's delivery robots, DAL-e and MobED, will be showcased at Samsung SDI's booth during the InterBattery 2025 exhibition, highlighting the potential of these batteries in the robotics market.

This collaboration marks a significant step for both Hyundai Motor Group and Samsung SDI. For Hyundai Motor Group, it strengthens their position in the robotics market by securing a reliable source of high-performance batteries. For Samsung SDI, it opens up new revenue streams and diversifies their portfolio in the rapidly growing robotics sector.

The partnership also raises expectations for further collaboration between the two companies in the electric vehicle battery sector. As Hyundai Motor Group plans to launch 21 new electric vehicle models by 2030, there is potential for increased cooperation with Samsung SDI in supplying EV batteries.

Overall, the collaboration between Hyundai Motor Group and Samsung SDI is poised to drive innovation in the robotics industry and pave the way for more advanced and efficient robotic solutions.
