Seo Seung-jae Secures Historic Second Consecutive World Title as Men's Doubles Duo Dominates

Paris, France — South Korea's top-ranked men's doubles pair, Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae, have clinched the gold medal at the 2025 BWF World Championships, reaffirming their status as a dominant force in international badminton. Their commanding 2-0 (21-17, 21-12) victory over China’s Chen Bo-yang and Liu Yi on Sunday at the Adidas Arena in Paris marked the pinnacle of a sensational year for the newly formed partnership.

The victory is particularly historic for Seo Seung-jae, who becomes the sixth player in badminton history to win back-to-back men's doubles world titles. His remarkable achievement follows his 2023 triumph with former partner Kang Min-hyuk, making him the first player in 12 years to achieve the feat since China's legendary duo, Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng.

The final match showcased the Korean pair's tenacity and skill. The first set was a tense battle, with both teams trading points until late in the game. Trailing 16-17, the Korean duo mounted a stunning rally, scoring eight consecutive points to seize the set 21-17. The comeback was sparked by a series of precise attacks and stubborn defensive plays that ultimately frustrated their opponents.

Carrying the momentum into the second set, Kim and Seo took complete control from the onset, winning the first eight points and establishing an early and decisive lead. Although the Chinese pair attempted to mount a comeback, the Koreans maintained their composure, holding onto their lead and never allowing their opponents to close the gap. They ultimately sealed the match and the championship with a comfortable 21-12 second-set victory.

The championship win caps an impressive ascent for Kim and Seo, who re-formed their partnership in January of this year. In just seven months, they have soared to the world number one ranking, winning five titles, including three Super 1000 series tournaments—the Malaysia Open, All England Open, and Indonesia Open. Their triumph in Paris solidifies their position at the top of the sport and offers a promising outlook for the future.
