"Aging is no longer an inevitable fate. We have entered an era where it can be recognized as a disease, prevented, and improved." Dr. Park Eon-hwi, Director of Park Eon-hwi Comprehensive Internal Medicine Clinic and Chairman of the Korea Anti-Aging Research Institute, presents a new paradigm for healthy aging.
Dr. Park views aging not as a simple natural phenomenon but as something to be actively managed. "Exercise, a balanced diet, positive thinking, and social relationships are key to healthy aging," he says, emphasizing that "especially love and care play an important role in cancer prevention and boosting immunity." He believes that not only biological factors such as NK cell activation but also warm interpersonal interactions enhance the quality of life.
Korea Anti-Aging Research Institute: A Hub for Well-Aging
Dr. Park established the Korea Anti-Aging Research Institute to conduct systematic aging research and promote its practical application. Under the slogan "Youth of 20 until 150," the institute operates popular programs for preventing age-related diseases such as menopausal disorders, decreased bone density, and hormonal issues. He advises, "The goal is not just extending lifespan but healthy and beautiful aging, that is, well-aging. It's important to accept age as a way of life, not just a number."
His research achievements have also been published in the books The Secret of Anti-Aging and Youth and Dementia. Dr. Park has solidified his position as the "No. 1 Anti-Aging Master," having been selected as one of "Korea's Top 100 Doctors (Anti-Aging Sector)" for seven consecutive years.
Beyond Medical Skill to Compassion: Practicing Through Sharing
Dr. Park's activities extend beyond the examination room to medically underserved areas. His flu vaccine donations, which began in 2004 and have continued for 20 years, continued this year as he visited senior welfare facilities and self-supporting churches in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region to provide free medical care and warmheartedness. His dedication is evident in his continuous efforts, including free clinics on Ulleungdo and Dokdo islands, and visits to associations for the disabled and military units.
In 2016, he joined the "Honor Society," a group of high-value donors, and founded the "Park Eon-hwi Schweitzer Sharing Volunteer Group," visiting nursing homes and rural areas monthly. His belief that "it is a doctor's duty not only to cure illness but also to share the loneliness and pain of patients" elevates his medical skills to an act of compassion.
"Healthy Aging Through Self-Management"
In this era of the 100-year lifespan, Dr. Park emphasizes that "to enjoy a respected old age, one must manage the age of their body and mind themselves." He urges, "Instead of sighing at aging, we should cherish each day as a precious time in life and live vibrantly," stressing that individuals hold the key to a healthy life.
Today, Dr. Park Eon-hwi continues to navigate the fields of research and service, paving the way for anti-aging and well-aging. His philosophy is simple: "Let's create healthy aging through love and effort." This is a human-centered value that remains unchanged even in the age of AI.
