K-Tuning Industry Pioneers Global Leap by Entering Vietnam

The South Korean automotive tuning industry has embarked on a significant turning point for global expansion by officially entering Vietnam, Southeast Asia's largest consumer market. The Korea Automotive Tuner Association (ATK) has laid a strong foundation for the local establishment and expansion of K-tuning brands through a strategic business agreement with Vincom Retail, Vietnam's largest multi-complex shopping mall operator.

During the agreement ceremony held on June 28 at Songdo Central Park Hotel, Pham Thi Thu Hien, CEO of Vincom Retail, personally visited Korea to express deep interest in and commitment to cooperating with the Korean tuning industry. Key working-level officials also accompanied her, establishing a practical basis for collaboration. Approximately 30 representatives from ATK member companies and promising Korean tuning and automotive-related businesses attended the ceremony, demonstrating the industry's strong desire for K-tuning's global expansion.

Vietnam Market Emerges as a Blue Ocean for K-Tuning

The core of this agreement involves K-tuning brands entering Vincom stores in Vietnam, jointly promoting marketing efforts, and expanding market share through an enlarged parts distribution network. Vietnam is regarded as a "blue ocean" due to its explosive growth, with an average annual automotive market growth rate of 12.6% and a 71.5% surge in sales volume compared to the same period last year. As of May 2024, Vietnam's car sales recorded over 22,000 units, maintaining a continuous upward trend. This signifies that with increasing personal incomes and car ownership, the tuning market also has immense growth potential. There's a growing interest in car customization among Vietnam's youth, which is expected to lead to demand for trendy and technologically advanced Korean tuning products.

ATK Supports Successful Establishment with Localized Strategies

ATK is accelerating the development of localized content and entry strategies tailored to the Vietnamese market. It plans to provide comprehensive support, including administrative, marketing, and educational assistance, for the successful local establishment of Korean tuning companies. As a concrete follow-up, ATK working-level officials and companies aspiring to enter Vietnam will visit Vietnam directly on July 11 to inspect key Vincom stores and attend Vietnam's largest automotive festival in the northern region, meticulously analyzing local market trends. Furthermore, they plan to provide integrated practical training on-site for aspiring companies, covering administrative procedures, legal aspects, import procedures, and distribution consulting, offering practical solutions for successful market entry.

Targeting the Entire Southeast Asian Market with Vietnam as a Hub

Yoo Sang-yong, ATK Director overseeing this Vietnam entry project, emphasized, "This agreement has paved the way for the Korean tuning industry to officially enter Vietnam, Southeast Asia's largest consumer market." He added, "We expect K-tuning brands to spread across Vietnam through Vincom Retail's nationwide distribution network." He also revealed that dedicated K-tuning sections will be progressively opened in major Vincom stores starting in the second half of this year, along with the parallel development of localized products. Director Yoo expressed the ambition to expand into major Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Indonesia, based on the success model in Vietnam, ultimately targeting the entire Southeast Asian market.

This entry into Vietnam is expected to be a crucial opportunity for the domestic tuning industry to move beyond its domestic focus and prove its global competitiveness, serving as a stepping stone for K-tuning to elevate its status in the global automotive market.
