South Korea Ranks 3rd Globally in OpenAI's 'Dots' AI Agent Usage as OpenAI Expands Strategic Partnerships

SEOUL — South Korea has firmly established its position as a powerhouse in artificial intelligence adoption, ranking third in the world for the usage of OpenAI’s advanced AI agent, "Dots."

The milestone was revealed by Kim Kyung-hoon, General Manager of OpenAI Korea, during the developer event "OpenAI DevDay Exchange Seoul" held in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Alongside its impressive ranking for Dots—an autonomous AI assistant designed to handle multifaceted tasks on behalf of users—South Korea also secured a top-five global spot for "ChatGPT Pro," OpenAI’s high-tier paid subscription plan.

The domestic event served as a local showcase of cutting-edge technologies initially unveiled at OpenAI’s annual DevDay in San Francisco last month. Throughout the conference, OpenAI engineering teams introduced state-of-the-art methods for building AI agents, enhanced security features for Codex, and real-time voice and image generation technologies. Industry giants and key partners, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and LG CNS, also participated to share practical implementation experiences.

"Dots": Redefining Productivity Through Autonomous Collaboration

During a pre-briefing demonstration ahead of the main event, Dots showcased its next-generation capabilities by seamlessly managing a simulated workflow. When a presenter asked the AI to coordinate a schedule over the phone, Dots autonomously scanned free time slots, proposed a coffee meeting, and drafted an email invitation.

Demonstrating cross-platform execution without requiring manual app-by-app controls, Dots navigated fluidly between calendar and messaging services. Furthermore, while the user focused on other tasks, the AI utilized its dedicated cloud computing resources to independently produce educational corporate presentation materials and demonstration programs.

Industry experts note that Dots operates far beyond traditional chatbots, functioning as a true personal assistant capable of executing multi-step business workflows. Looking ahead, OpenAI announced plans to advance the technology further, enabling multiple Dots agents to divide roles and collaborate autonomously on complex enterprise tasks.

Driving Innovation Through Local Feedback

General Manager Kim emphasized that the vibrant enthusiasm and proactive feedback from South Korean developers have played a crucial role in refining OpenAI's global product roadmap. He cited recent improvements made to OpenAI's Korean-language voice features as a direct result of local insights.

"We hope this event serves as a meaningful catalyst for South Korean developers to directly experience cutting-edge AI technologies and seamlessly translate them into innovative real-world products and services," Kim stated.
A Strategic Alliance: OpenAI and Google Cloud Join Forces
In a surprising yet strategic industry development, OpenAI announced a landmark partnership with its primary competitor, Google.

Under this new collaboration, OpenAI’s latest flagship models, including GPT-6 Astra and Codex, will be made available through Google Cloud’s enterprise AI platform, "Model Garden." Initial pilot rollouts have already begun for select enterprise clients, with broader service expansions scheduled for the near future.

With this integration, OpenAI’s GPT models become only the second AI lineup—following rival Anthropic’s "Claude"—to be accessible across all top three global cloud computing ecosystems. This move signals a significant shift in OpenAI’s commercial strategy, accelerating its penetration into the competitive enterprise market by breaking down traditional platform silos.

As South Korea continues to spearhead global AI consumption and development, industry observers anticipate that the deepening collaboration between global tech giants and agile domestic tech ecosystems will further accelerate the commercialization of next-generation autonomous AI infrastructure.
