"47 Years of Deception Over": Trump Blasts Iran’s ‘Delay Tactics,’ Rips Obama and Biden as ‘Catastrophic’

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump has issued a scathing rebuke of Iran’s chronic diplomatic foot-dragging, characterizing it as a nearly five-decade-long history of “playing games” with the United States. In a series of fiery statements, Trump labeled the Middle East policy of the Obama and Biden administrations as a total "disaster," signaling a hardline approach to seize total control over ongoing peace negotiations.

"Delay, Delay, Delay!": Ripping Iran’s Diplomatic Strategy

On May 10 (local time), President Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to target Tehran’s diplomatic playbook. “Iran has been playing games with the U.S. and the world for 47 years,” Trump wrote, emphasizing that their strategy has consistently been to “DELAY, DELAY, DELAY!”

His comments suggest that since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran has used rhetorical maneuvers to buy time for its nuclear ambitions and regional expansion while avoiding any substantive commitments. By calling out these tactics, Trump aims to frame the current negotiations not as a traditional diplomatic exchange, but as a final opportunity for Iran to stop its perceived manipulation of American interests.

Reviving the ‘$400 Million Cash’ Controversy

A significant portion of Trump’s criticism was reserved for the Obama administration’s 2016 delivery of $400 million in hard currency to Iran. Trump described this event as a “bonanza” for Tehran. While the Obama administration maintained the funds were a settlement of a pre-revolutionary arms deal, Trump and his conservative allies have long criticized it as a “ransom payment” for the release of American detainees.

By dredging up this past incident, Trump is contrasting his “maximum pressure” philosophy with what he portrays as the “weakness” of Democratic diplomacy. This rhetoric serves to justify his administration’s current aggressive stance, suggesting that only through strength—and not "windfalls"—can Iran be brought to a meaningful resolution.

Double Attack on Rivals: "Biden is Worse Than Obama"

Trump did not miss the opportunity to assault his domestic political rivals. While labeling former President Barack Hussein Obama a “disaster as our leader,” he reserved sharper vitriol for President Joe Biden. “Sleepy Joe Biden is not as good (or as bad) as Obama,” Trump remarked, implying that the current administration’s policies have been even more catastrophic for American national security.

This dual attack is seen by analysts as a strategic move to dominate the national security narrative. By bundling Iran’s defiance with the alleged failures of both Obama and Biden, Trump is positioning himself as the only leader capable of breaking the cycle of what he calls “47 years of mockery.”

Brinkmanship to Seize the Negotiation Initiative

The timing of these remarks is particularly telling. The outburst came immediately after the Iranian state-run news agency IRNA reported that Tehran had delivered a response to U.S. proposals via Pakistan. By preemptively slamming Iran for “delaying” before even reviewing the formal response, Trump is employing a classic brinkmanship tactic.

Experts in Washington suggest that this is a deliberate move to set a high bar for the negotiations. It puts Iran on the defensive, making it clear that any proposal short of a total capitulation to U.S. terms will be dismissed as more “games.” As the world watches the unfolding diplomatic drama, Trump has made one thing certain: he intends to dictate the terms of the end-of-war agreement, leaving no room for the “delay tactics” of the past.
