The match was the only KBO League game played across the country on a rain-affected evening, with a monsoon front impacting much of the peninsula. Lotte, now boasting a record of 40 wins, 3 draws, and 31 losses, solidifies their position in third place as they relentlessly pursue the top spot. Meanwhile, the Samsung Lions, who entered the day in fourth place, slipped to fifth following the loss, overtaken by the surging KIA Tigers.

Lotte's starting pitcher, Alex Gamboa, delivered a stellar performance, silencing the Lions' bats over six strong innings. He allowed just one run on four hits, including a solo home run, while striking out eight batters. This dominant outing earned Gamboa his fourth win of the season, showcasing his growing importance to the Giants' rotation. Following Gamboa, the bullpen tandem of Jung Hyun-soo, Jung Cheol-won, and closer Kim Won-jung each pitched a scoreless inning, demonstrating remarkable endurance and precision despite Jung Hyun-soo and Jung Cheol-won pitching on their third consecutive day. As the rain intensified in the fifth inning, Samsung mounted a comeback attempt. Consecutive walks put runners on second and third with one out.
