Trump's Approval Rating Hits Record Low, Immigration Policy Faces Backlash

Former U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating has hit a record low since his return to the White House, facing a political crisis. In particular, opposition to Trump's core policy, immigration policy, has surpassed approval, further narrowing his political standing.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, conducted from the 16th to the 21st among 4,306 U.S. adults, Trump's job approval rating was 42%. This is a 1 percentage point drop from the 43% recorded in the previous poll on the 2nd, and the lowest since Trump took office. Trump's approval rating at the time of his inauguration was 47%.

A notable point in this poll is the worsening public opinion on Trump's immigration policy. 46% of respondents opposed Trump's immigration policy, while only 45% supported it. This suggests that even Trump's core supporters are turning their backs on his immigration policy.

Furthermore, 57% of respondents opposed Trump's budget cuts to Harvard University, etc., in relation to anti-Israel protests on campus. 83% of respondents said, "The president must follow the rulings of federal courts, even if he does not want to," demonstrating the strong public criticism of the Trump administration's forced deportation of illegal Venezuelan residents, despite federal court orders.

In addition, 59% of respondents expressed concern that the United States is losing credibility on the international stage, and 75% opposed Trump's attempt for a third term. Even among Republican supporters, 53% expressed opposition to a third term.

While recent forecasts suggested that Trump had a high probability of being nominated as the Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential election, this poll result shows that his political standing is more unstable than expected. In particular, the decline in approval ratings for his immigration policy signifies a departure of his core supporters, which could be a major obstacle in his future presidential path.

Meanwhile, Trump is currently facing several criminal lawsuits. He has been indicted on various charges, including attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, leakage of classified documents, and manipulation of business records related to sexual scandals. These legal issues are acting as factors that further weaken Trump's political standing.
