The National Arts Centre (NAC) Orchestra, renowned for its innovative performances, will hold its first-ever concert in Korea on May 31st at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall. The performance will be conducted by Music Director Alexander Shelley and will feature a collaboration with world-renowned pianist Yeol Eum Son.

A Diverse Musical Journey by Canada's Premier Orchestra

Based in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, the NAC Orchestra has established itself as a leading orchestra in Canada, showcasing bold performances and an artistic vision that reflects society. Music Director Alexander Shelley, who has led the NAC Orchestra since 2015, has gained international acclaim since winning the 2005 Leeds Conducting Competition. He is known for his modern and original reinterpretations of classics and for actively introducing works by contemporary composers, including Canadian composers.

In this concert, the NAC Orchestra will present a diverse range of music, from classical to late romantic, impressionist, and contemporary. The program will begin with R. Strauss's "Don Juan," followed by the Korean premiere of "Dark Nights, Shining Stars, Vast Universe" by Canadian contemporary composer Kelly-Marie Murphy. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of French composer Ravel's birth, pianist Yeol Eum Son will join the orchestra in performing a piano concerto that highlights the colors of French music and Ravel's unique delicate orchestration. The final piece will be Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, "Fate," one of his most famous and innovative symphonies, culminating in a finale filled with joy and a strong will to overcome tragic fate.

A Special Meeting with Pianist Yeol Eum Son

Yeol Eum Son, who rose to prominence as a world-class pianist after winning the 2009 Van Cliburn and 2011 Tchaikovsky International Competitions, has been actively performing on domestic and international stages, showcasing her unique performances and artistic vision. Through this collaboration with the NAC Orchestra, Yeol Eum Son is expected to deliver even deeper musical interpretations and emotions.

A Mast Media representative stated, "The fresh and energetic music created by the unrivaled pianist Yeol Eum Son, who appeals to all generations, Music Director Alexander Shelley, who adds depth to musical communication, and the NAC Orchestra, which reflects the times, is expected to meet the expectations of many."
