AI startup Vero AI (CEO Jung So-young) is drawing attention from the industry as its innovative technology, which allows AI to predict and self-improve the learning accuracy of dog behavior, has been registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This technology, named the 'Self-Driven Interactive Learning System,' is regarded as a foundational technology with the potential to fundamentally change how humans and pets communicate.

Unprecedented Patent Registration Acquired in Just Three Months

Vero AI announced on May 27th that its unique AI technology had been registered with the USPTO. What's particularly exceptional is that the patent registration was approved in just three months. Considering that, according to USPTO statistics, AI patent registrations typically take 2.5 to 3.5 years, this indicates that Vero AI's technology has been recognized for its "significant technological differentiation and unique value." This is strong evidence of the technology's high originality and innovativeness.

The technology is characterized by a mechanism where AI not only analyzes dog behavior patterns but also learns and improves accuracy through real-time feedback. This goes beyond simple behavior recognition, providing a foundation for more accurately understanding a dog's emotional state and intentions. Based on this technology, Vero AI plans to develop a smart collar that can communicate with dogs within this year.

A Vero AI official stated, "The prototype has been completed, and we plan to collect data and conduct beta tests with actual dogs." Through this process, they expect to secure data on various environments and breeds, further enhancing the system's accuracy and practicality.

Opening a New Horizon for 'Interspecies Communication'

Vero AI CEO Jung So-young emphasized the significance of this patent registration, stating, "It's not an abstract idea, but rather the recognition of an original technology that can practically solve interspecies communication and has no similar structure." She added, "Beyond a mere technological patent, it will be the first step in ushering in an era of mutual understanding between humans and animals." This suggests that Vero AI's technology can positively impact not only the pet industry but also the relationship between humans and animals itself.

Vero AI is a startup founded in 2023 in Montreal, Canada, by Jung So-young, a former Samsung Electronics researcher. Particularly noteworthy is its official partnership with the MILA institute, founded by world-renowned AI scholar Yoshua Bengio, where they are jointly researching pet communication AI technology. The MILA institute is a globally recognized institution in the field of deep learning, and this collaboration enhances the credibility of Vero AI's technological prowess and research capabilities.

The Future of the Pet Industry and the Integration of AI Technology

Vero AI's acquisition of this US patent will be recorded as a significant case of AI technology being integrated into the rapidly growing pet industry. As "pet families" who consider pets as family members increase worldwide, there's growing interest in pets' health, happiness, and communication. In this trend, Vero AI's smart collar is expected to be utilized in various areas, such as pet stress management, early detection of health abnormalities, and correction of abnormal behaviors, by real-time identification of a pet's actions and emotions and relaying them to the owner.

For example, the smart collar can analyze specific dog behaviors (e.g., barking, howling, changes in movement patterns) and, through AI learning, inform the owner of the emotional state indicated by these behaviors (e.g., anxiety, boredom, joy). Additionally, it can monitor health indicators such as a dog's activity level and sleep patterns, and if unusual changes are detected, it could suggest consulting a veterinarian.

This technology focuses on AI interpreting and predicting complex behavioral data, going beyond simply translating dog sounds. This will help owners understand the non-verbal cues sent by their dogs more deeply, ultimately contributing to improving the dog's quality of life and strengthening the bond with their owners.

Vero AI's successful commercialization of its technology will not only bring new energy to the pet-related product market but also serve as an important milestone demonstrating how artificial intelligence can contribute to realizing social values such as respect for life and welfare.
