Exploring Cultural Diversity: Seoul Youth Culture Exchange Center Launches "Multiculturalism is Also Culture" Program

SEOUL – The Seoul Youth Culture Exchange Center (Mizy Center) has announced the recruitment of participants for its "Multiculturalism is Also Culture" program, an initiative designed to foster a deeper understanding of cultural diversity among young people in South Korea. This free program offers middle and high school students residing in Seoul a unique opportunity to directly engage with and explore the multifaceted aspects of multiculturalism within their own society.

The "Multiculturalism is Also Culture" program stands out for its participant-led approach. A total of 12 selected youths will have the chance to plan and participate in a multicultural field trip and a 1-night, 2-day workshop in July 2025. This hands-on experience encourages students to form teams, research multicultural venues across Seoul, design their own travel itineraries, and then embark on these exploratory journeys. The objective is to move beyond theoretical knowledge and provide tangible experiences that cultivate a richer appreciation for diverse cultures, enhance cultural sensitivity and inclusivity, and ultimately strengthen their capabilities as global citizens.

Key activities within the program include an orientation session on July 5th (Saturday), where participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the program's goals and structure. This will be followed by the student-planned multicultural field trip on July 12th (Saturday), an opportunity for students to put their research and planning into action. The immersive 1-night, 2-day multicultural workshop, scheduled for July 25th (Friday) to July 26th (Saturday), promises a deeper dive into cultural exchange and awareness. The program culminates with a final results presentation on August 9th (Saturday).

The curriculum is thoughtfully curated to offer a broad spectrum of experiences. Participants will have the chance to engage in activities such as sampling diverse culinary traditions from various countries and attending multicultural musical performances, offering a direct sensory engagement with cultural diversity. The program also incorporates expert lectures by instructors with multicultural backgrounds, aiming to challenge preconceived notions and encourage a more inclusive worldview. Throughout all activities, experienced youth leaders will accompany the participants, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for optimal learning and engagement.

Mizy Center emphasizes that this program is more than just an educational trip; it's a transformative journey. The center hopes that through "Multiculturalism is Also Culture," young people will come to perceive multiculturalism not merely as "different cultures" but as "cultures we live with together." The ultimate goal is to nurture a generation of global citizens who embody mutual respect and embrace inclusivity, fostering a harmonious society where diverse cultures can thrive side by side.

Applications for the "Multiculturalism is Also Culture" program are open to all middle and high school students residing in Seoul and will be accepted until Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Interested individuals can apply through the official Mizy Center website at www.mizy.net.

The Seoul Youth Culture Exchange Center, also known as Mizy Center, is a specialized institution for youth cultural exchange, established by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and operated by the Daesan Foundation, a public interest foundation of Kyobo Life Insurance.
