Daejeon, South Korea - The annual Yuseong Hot Spring Cultural Festival, a flagship event of Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, is set to return with a diverse array of programs to captivate citizens and visitors alike. Scheduled to take place from May 2nd to 4th along Oncheon-ro (Hot Spring Road), the 2025 edition marks the festival's significant 30th anniversary.

The Yuseong Hot Spring Cultural Festival uniquely blends the historical significance of the Yuseong hot springs with the modern identity of Yuseong as a science-focused city. This year's milestone celebration promises an even more spectacular experience, honoring tradition while embracing contemporary entertainment.

The festivities will commence on May 2nd with the 'Susinje,' a traditional ritual paying homage to the spirit of Yuseong. This will be followed by performances of the Yuseong Hakchum (crane dance) and traditional Yuseong hot spring folk games, both recognized as local intangible cultural heritage. The grand opening ceremony will feature celebratory performances by renowned South Korean artists including Kukkasten and Ali, alongside a special 30th-anniversary performance. A breathtaking drone light show featuring 700 drones and a spectacular fireworks display will illuminate the night sky above the Gapcheon River, heralding the start of the three-day extravaganza.

The second day, May 3rd, will showcase the festival's signature event: a vibrant street parade themed around the 30th anniversary of the Yuseong Hot Spring Cultural Festival. Residents and professional performance teams, including large crane puppets, marionettes, and flash mob dancers, will transform Oncheon-ro into a lively street party. To cater to all age groups, the program will also include popular children's character performances and an exciting hot spring water DJ party, where attendees can enjoy music while splashing in the therapeutic waters.

The final day will host the fiercely contested final round of the 'Yuseong Hot Spring Music Dance Competition,' drawing talented participants from across the nation. The closing ceremony will offer a mesmerizing VR performance and a captivating popera concert, bringing the anniversary celebration to a memorable close.

Throughout the festival period, from 3 PM daily, the popular 'Hot Spring Water Gun Splash' will take place on Oncheon-ro, inviting everyone to engage in a refreshing water fight set to lively music. Additionally, over 100 diverse experience booths and a 'Forest Healing Zone' will be available, providing relaxation and interactive activities.

To further enhance the hot spring experience, a pop-up swimming pool will be installed on Oncheon-ro, and the Yuseongho-themed foot bath train will offer a unique way to enjoy wine and aroma foot baths, providing an immersive encounter with the renowned Yuseong hot springs.

Jeong Yong-rae, the Mayor of Yuseong-gu, expressed his hopes for the festival, stating, "In celebration of the Family Month of May, we have prepared a space for harmony and healing that can be enjoyed by all generations. We hope that families will create special memories at the Yuseong Hot Spring Cultural Festival, which is full of attractions and experiences, including a spring flower exhibition and foot bath experience zones."

The Yuseong hot springs boast a history stretching back to the Baekje Kingdom (18 BC – 660 AD), with historical records indicating visits by royalty for their healing properties. The mineral-rich waters are known for containing over 60 beneficial minerals, believed to be effective for various ailments and promoting overall well-being. The annual cultural festival has become a significant event, drawing both local and international visitors to experience the unique blend of natural healing and cultural festivities in Yuseong-gu.
