Seocheon and Yesan to Integrate Tourism Transportation Booking via Mobile Apps

South Chungcheong Province has announced that Seocheon County and Yesan County have been selected for the Korea Tourism Organization's (KTO) "2025 Public-Private Partnership Tourism Transportation Revitalization Support Project."

This initiative, one of the KTO's eight key projects for the year, aims to invigorate the operation of local tourism transportation such as tourism taxis and city tours, thereby enhancing accessibility for tourists across the regions.

In its inaugural year, the nationwide competition selected 27 cities and counties, with Seocheon and Yesan being the chosen representatives from South Chungcheong Province.

The support project will facilitate the integration of information and booking services for local tourism transportation, including tourism taxis and city tours, into popular transportation service applications like Kakao T and TmoneyGO. This unified system will allow tourists to conveniently access and book these services through their mobile devices.

Furthermore, the project will support promotional activities, including featuring tourism transportation products on app banners and dedicated pages, offering mileage and discounts, and conducting broader public relations and marketing campaigns through various media channels.

A representative from the provincial government stated, "In line with the Visit South Chungcheong Province Year, we are committed to revitalizing local tourism transportation to ensure that even tourists relying on public transport can comfortably explore South Chungcheong."

Expanding Tourism Accessibility through Integrated Mobile Platforms

The selection of Seocheon and Yesan underscores the province's commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the tourism experience. By integrating local transportation services into widely used mobile applications, the initiative aims to break down barriers to travel for those who may not have access to private vehicles. This move aligns with a broader trend in the tourism industry towards digital solutions that offer convenience and ease of access for travelers.

Tourism taxis, often operating on a fixed-rate or metered basis for sightseeing routes, provide a personalized and flexible way for visitors to explore attractions at their own pace. City tours, on the other hand, typically offer guided excursions to key landmarks and cultural sites, providing an overview of the destination. By making these services easily bookable through familiar mobile apps, Seocheon and Yesan anticipate an increase in their appeal to both domestic and international tourists.

The collaboration with established platforms like Kakao T and TmoneyGO is expected to provide significant reach and user convenience. Kakao T, a dominant ride-hailing service in South Korea, boasts a vast user base, while TmoneyGO integrates various public transportation options and shared mobility services. Integrating tourism-specific transportation into these platforms will streamline the travel planning process for tourists, allowing them to seamlessly arrange their transportation needs alongside other aspects of their trip.

Anticipated Benefits for Local Economies and Tourism Sector

The revitalization of tourism transportation is expected to have a positive ripple effect on the local economies of Seocheon and Yesan. Increased accessibility can lead to a rise in tourist arrivals, benefiting local businesses such as restaurants, accommodations, and souvenir shops. Furthermore, the enhanced convenience offered by the integrated booking system may encourage longer stays and increased spending by visitors.

The initiative also presents an opportunity to promote sustainable tourism practices. By making public and shared transportation options more attractive and accessible, the project can potentially reduce reliance on private vehicles, contributing to lower carbon emissions and less traffic congestion in popular tourist areas.

Looking Ahead: A Model for Regional Tourism Development

The successful implementation of this project in Seocheon and Yesan could serve as a model for other regions in South Korea seeking to enhance their tourism infrastructure. The integration of technology with traditional tourism offerings has the potential to create a more seamless and enjoyable experience for visitors, ultimately boosting the competitiveness of regional tourism destinations.

The South Chungcheong Provincial Government and the Korea Tourism Organization are expected to closely monitor the progress of the project in Seocheon and Yesan, gathering data and insights that can inform future initiatives aimed at revitalizing tourism transportation across the country. This collaborative approach between public and private entities, leveraging the power of digital platforms, signifies a forward-thinking strategy for promoting regional tourism in the years to come.
