Goyang, South Korea – Goyang Sports Complex, located just northwest of Seoul, has firmly established itself as a major venue for global music tours, reporting a staggering revenue of 10.9 billion KRW (approximately $8.3 million USD) from 18 K-pop, rock, and hip-hop concerts held this year. This remarkable figure, announced by Goyang City on November 18, comes alongside an impressive attendance record, drawing nearly 700,000 visitors to the city over the course of the year.

Including last year's performance, the cumulative audience count for concerts at the complex now stands at 850,000, with total revenue hitting 12.5 billion KRW ($9.5 million USD).

Attracting Global A-Listers and Boosting Local Economy

The Goyang Sports Complex, with a seating capacity of approximately 40,000, has become a preferred destination for both domestic and international superstars. The venue hosted major tours this year, including G-Dragon's solo tour and six separate shows by Coldplay, which collectively attracted 320,000 attendees alone.

In addition to these international acts, the complex has welcomed top-tier Korean artists such as BTS members J-Hope and Jin, BLACKPINK, and DAY6. International heavyweights continued to favor the venue, with the British band Oasis and American rapper Travis Scott choosing the complex for their performances last month. Last year's lineup featured performances by Kanye West, ENHYPEN, and SEVENTEEN.

The growing prominence of the stadium is attributed to several key advantages. The facility boasts excellent accessibility to major transportation hubs, including Incheon and Gimpo International Airports, the Jayu and Second Jayu Expressways, Subway Line 3, and the new GTX-A railway line. Furthermore, a significant operational benefit is the absence of a permanent home sports team, allowing concert organizers to execute rapid stage setup and dismantling, a factor highly valued by major event planners.

Significant Economic Impact

The influx of concertgoers has had a pronounced positive effect on the local economy. Data shows that credit card sales in the nearby Daehwa Station commercial district surged by 58.1% during concert periods, with the number of visitors to the area increasing by 15%.

Goyang City Mayor Lee Dong-hwan emphasized the broader impact of the concert boom. "This year's major concerts have significantly elevated Goyang City's economy and urban competitiveness," Mayor Lee stated. "The city is positioning itself as the starting point for K-pop stars' world tours, consequently emerging as a new epicenter for Korean performance culture."

With its strategic location, logistical efficiency, and demonstrated capacity to host major global events, the Goyang Sports Complex is quickly becoming a cornerstone of the regional music scene, promising continued economic and cultural growth for the city.
