Selected for Kia Move On (溫) Social Contribution Project, Fostering Bonding in Nature-Friendly Environment
The Goseong-gun Family Center announced on the 10th that it successfully held the 'Small but Certain Happiness for Children from Multicultural Families - Our Sohwakhaeng Camp' for 20 children from multicultural families. This camp was designed to resolve difficulties such as social adjustment and cultural alienation that children from multicultural families may experience, and to expand opportunities for leisure and cultural experiences for their healthy growth and potential development. In particular, as it was promoted after being selected for the 'Kia Move On (溫) Social Contribution Project' by the Korea Volunteer Culture Association, it is also attracting attention as a cooperative model fulfilling the social responsibility of the local community and corporations.
The increase in multicultural families in Korea is recognized as a significant societal change, and supporting the stable settlement and healthy future planning of children from these families in Korean society has emerged as an essential task. The Goseong-gun Family Center responded to this social need by operating this camp with the goal of improving the psychological and emotional stability and life satisfaction of children from multicultural families.
Camp participants engaged in various community activities with peers at a nature-friendly glamping site, fostering self-reliance and cooperation. Especially, the process of interacting with nature and cooperating with team members in the unique glamping environment was evaluated as a very meaningful time for forming intimacy and bonding among participants. This provided a special experience for children from multicultural families who usually had limited opportunities for leisure activities due to their academic or home environments.
As a Day 1 program, participants explored major tourist attractions on Sacheon Bito Island, gaining an understanding of the local nature and culture. In the evening, a barbecue party and various fellowship activities were held at the glamping site, providing a sincere platform for mutual communication where participants presented their dreams and career paths. Sharing stories about their dreams and future, participants positively influenced each other, contributing to the improvement of self-efficacy and future planning abilities.
On Day 2, diverse cultural experience programs continued, including riding the Sacheon Cable Car to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Southern Sea and visiting an aquarium. Providing opportunities to directly observe and learn about marine life and natural environments that are not easily accessible normally, the programs stimulated participants' curiosity and broadened their horizons. These experiences positively influenced the participants' cultural literacy and enhanced their inquisitiveness for new knowledge.
An official from the Goseong-gun Family Center stated, "We hope that this 'Sohwakhaeng Camp' provided unforgettable memories for children from multicultural families and offered practical help in improving their emotional stability and social skills." The center plans to continuously discover and operate various programs that support children from multicultural families to grow into healthy members of our society. These efforts are expected to serve as an important cornerstone in helping multicultural families stably settle in Korean society and creating an inclusive society where cultural diversity is respected.
