JINJU, South Korea – The city of Jinju announced on February 4, 2026, that its flagship forest welfare facility, Worasan Woodland, has been designated as an outstanding institution in the "2025 Excellent Wood Culture Experience Center Evaluation" hosted by the Korea Forest Service.

This prestigious recognition solidifies Worasan Woodland’s position as a national leader in promoting wood culture and forest education, following a comprehensive evaluation of 49 experience centers across the country. The assessment focused on operational efficiency, the uniqueness of regional tourism-linked programs, and public outreach efforts.

A Surge in Popularity: 600,000 Annual Visitors
Worasan Woodland is the heart of the larger "Worasan Jinsu" (Jewel of the Forest), a multi-purpose forest welfare complex. According to city data, the complex welcomed approximately 600,000 visitors in 2025, representing a staggering 71% increase compared to 2024.

Industry analysts attribute this rapid growth to the site’s "all-in-one" forest experience model, which seamlessly integrates natural recreation forests, forest leports (leisure sports), and educational spaces. The hosting of diverse seasonal cultural events throughout the year has also transformed the venue from a local park into a major regional tourist destination.

Championing Carbon Neutrality and Inclusivity
A key factor in the Korea Forest Service’s high rating was Worasan Woodland’s commitment to carbon neutrality. By educating the public on the value of wood as a sustainable resource, the center has encouraged eco-friendly lifestyle changes.

The center’s curriculum is designed to be inclusive, reaching far beyond the typical weekend tourist. Highlights include:

Mobile Woodworking Classes: Outreach services specifically designed for the elderly, disabled, and underprivileged populations who face mobility challenges.

Setting Records in Certified Forest Education
Worasan Woodland has also distinguished itself through its professional educational rigor. With the recent addition of the "Little Heroes Protecting the Forest" program, the center now holds four officially certified programs by the Korea Forest Service—a record-breaking achievement as the only local government in Gyeongsangnam-do Province to hold such a distinction.

The newly certified "Little Heroes" program is targeted at 3rd and 4th-grade elementary students. It focuses on the intrinsic value of forests and the practical importance of forest fire prevention. This program is set to launch its full-scale operation in early 2026, aiming to foster a sense of environmental stewardship in the younger generation.

Future Vision: "Emotional Woodworking"
Looking ahead, Jinju City plans to soften the traditional, "hard" image of woodworking by introducing "Lifestyle Woodworking Programs" that combine timber with living elements like flowers and orchids. This "bio-design" approach is intended to create a more emotional and sensory connection between citizens and nature.
