The Philippines' Tanduay Rises as a Powerhouse in the Global Liquor Market

Tanduay, the Philippines' flagship rum brand, has achieved remarkable growth in the global liquor market, rising to the ranks of a top global brand. In the "Global Best-Selling Brand Champions 2024" ranking published by the prestigious liquor magazine The Spirits Business, Tanduay made an impressive debut at number 7, the only rum brand to be featured.

Unstoppable Growth, Reaching Global 7th Place

Tanduay sold 23.8 million cases (9-liter standard) in 2024, recording a robust growth rate of 1.9% compared to the previous year. This achievement is particularly significant as it was accomplished during a general downturn in the global liquor market. Tanduay climbed two spots from its previous 9th-place ranking, proving its consistent growth trajectory. The brand was also named the Rum Brand Champion, officially recognizing it as the top brand in its category.

Kyle Tan, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tanduay Distillers, stated, "Being recognized as a Brand Champion is a testament to our team's hard work, our customers' support, and the resilience of our brand values. In the highly competitive liquor market, this achievement will reinforce our commitment to quality, innovation, and excellence."

Securing the "World's #1 Rum" Title for 8 Consecutive Years

Prior to the announcement by The Spirits Business, Tanduay had already secured the title of "World's Best-Selling Rum" for the eighth consecutive year in the "Millionaires' Club" report published by another famous liquor magazine, Drinks International Magazine. According to the report, Tanduay's sales volume overwhelmingly surpassed its competitors, with Bacardi (19.7 million cases) and Captain Morgan (11.5 million cases) in second and third place, respectively, solidifying its undisputed top position.

Several factors have contributed to this success. Tanduay's flagship product, Tanduay 5-Year-Old, has consistently driven growth, while a diverse product line, including Tanduay Light and Tanduay Select, has performed well by meeting market demands. Furthermore, building on its dominant position in the domestic Philippine market, the brand has steadily expanded its market share in international markets such as the United States, Belgium, Ukraine, and the United Arab Emirates.

"Pride of the Philippines" Tanduay Prepares for a New Leap

Tanduay is not resting on its laurels and is preparing for a new leap forward. The company plans to expand its brand portfolio by developing customized products targeting the premium liquor segments of both local and international markets. This strategy is interpreted as a move to not only increase sales but also to elevate the brand image and expand its influence in the premium rum market.

The editorial team of The Spirits Business explained that they select "Brand Champions" based on a comprehensive evaluation that considers not only sales volume but also marketing activities, new product development, and brand consistency. This means Tanduay has been recognized as a "champion" for leading international liquor market trends and demonstrating innovative actions.

Kyle Tan emphasized, "Seeing a homegrown Philippine brand stand shoulder to shoulder with giants in the global spirits industry fills me with immense pride. This recognition is not just Tanduay's victory but a victory for all Filipinos." Born in the sugarcane fields of the Philippines with a history spanning over 170 years, Tanduay is now cementing its place as the "global rum icon" captivating drinkers worldwide.
