Asunción, Paraguay - Hospitals are currently overwhelmed due to a simultaneous outbreak of respiratory diseases including COVID-19, influenza, and RSV. Pediatric and adolescent wards are particularly crowded with patients.

The influenza outbreak is the largest since 2016, and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) infections are also on the rise. Both of these illnesses are acute respiratory infections caused by the respiratory syncytial virus.

Symptoms of influenza can include fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, and headache. RSV infection can present with symptoms such as runny nose, cough, sneezing, and fever.

Vaccinations are available for both illnesses, and getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent them. Additionally, practicing good personal hygiene such as handwashing, wearing masks, and following cough etiquette is important.

If respiratory illness symptoms appear, it is advisable to visit a hospital for medical attention. Early diagnosis and treatment can alleviate symptoms and prevent complications.
