Most, Czech Republic – On Saturday, March 1, 2025, the Czech Republic made history as 2,461 intrepid cold-water swimmers plunged into the icy depths of Most Lake, establishing a new Guinness World Record for the largest polar bear dip. This extraordinary feat surpassed the previous record of 1,799 participants, set in Mielno, Poland, in 2015.
Amidst frigid air temperatures, participants braved water temperatures of 3.5 degrees Celsius (38.2 degrees Fahrenheit) to achieve this remarkable milestone. To adhere to strict Guinness World Records guidelines, each swimmer was required to wear a bathing suit, submerge to at least waist depth, and remain in the water for a minimum of one minute.
The event was masterfully organized by David Vencl, a renowned Czech freediver celebrated for his exceptional accomplishments in cold-water swimming. Notably, in 2021, Vencl set a world record by swimming 80.9 meters under ice without a wetsuit. His unwavering passion for cold-water immersion and dedication to promoting the sport were instrumental in mobilizing such a vast number of participants for this record-breaking endeavor.
