Daejeon, South Korea - The city of Daejeon is taking significant steps towards becoming a global space hub by hosting the International Space Summit (ISS) 2025 this June. This major international conference is expected to drive the future of the global space industry.
On March 28th, the Daejeon Metropolitan City Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Contec Space Group, South Korea's first publicly listed space startup, to jointly organize ISS 2025.
Through this collaboration, both entities have committed to strengthening the competitiveness of the local space industry ecosystem and fostering substantial growth in the sector.
ISS 2025, a private sector-led international space conference initiated by Contec in 2023, will be held at the Daejeon Convention Center from June 3rd to 5th. The event is anticipated to attract over 400 space experts, academics, global company representatives, government officials, and investors from more than 40 countries. It will serve as a platform for sharing cutting-edge space technologies and innovative ideas, as well as for expanding global industry networks.
The summit will feature dynamic presentations, discussions, and exhibitions covering diverse areas such as space exploration, space development, satellite communication, and space observation. ISS 2025 is poised to be a prominent global platform offering a comprehensive overview of the present and future of the advanced space industry.
Leveraging its robust infrastructure, which includes the Daedeok Innopolis research and development cluster housing key space research institutions like the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), along with 88 space companies, Daejeon is actively cultivating its space industry ecosystem. Key initiatives include the designation of a space industry cluster, the establishment of a space technology innovation talent development center, the promotion of a space technology regulatory free zone, the Daejeon SAT Project, and support for space launch vehicle verification.
Notably, Daejeon aims to establish ISS as a recurring international event, solidifying the city's position as a global space industry cluster and a central hub for technological exchange.
Lee Sung-hee, Chairman of Contec Space Group, stated, "The International Space Summit will be more than just an academic event; it will be a crucial stage leading the trends of the space industry. We will successfully host the event through close cooperation with Daejeon City."
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo emphasized, "This agreement marks a significant turning point that will not only facilitate the overseas expansion of local space companies but also attract increased investment from global enterprises into Daejeon. We will work closely with Contec to faithfully serve as a crucial bridge connecting with the world."
