Montevideo, Uruguay - The U.S. Embassy in Uruguay, in collaboration with the Alianza Cultural Uruguay–Estados Unidos, has launched a new call for proposals for the "U.S. Embassy Strategic Projects Fund." This initiative aims to support innovative projects that advance shared interests between the United States and Uruguay.

The fund prioritizes projects that promote democratic stability, regional security, and economic growth, while also strengthening bilateral cooperation and aligning with the strategic priorities of U.S. foreign policy. A total of $150,000 USD is available, with individual project grants ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 USD. The project implementation period is expected to run from July 2025 to July 2026.

Key Areas of Support:

Economic Prosperity: Focuses on stimulating economic growth, trade, and U.S. investment; enhancing economic resilience; mitigating risks related to unfair trade practices; addressing the root causes of migration through workforce development and skills enhancement in strategic sectors; and fostering technological advancements in STEM fields, including artificial intelligence, big data, and robotics education.
Democracy and Leadership Exchanges: Aims to strengthen democratic values and civic engagement; promote media independence and access to reliable information; counter disinformation; reinforce free-market economic principles; and facilitate exchanges with U.S. institutions and experts to advance academic and professional excellence.
Security and Safety: Supports projects that build local security capacity to combat transnational crime, money laundering, and human trafficking; reinforce justice, transparency, accountability, and freedom of expression; and enhance cybersecurity and the protection of critical infrastructure.
Examples of Eligible Projects:

The call provides several examples of projects that could be considered for funding, including:

U.S.-based training programs for Uruguayan leaders focused on enhancing regional security and justice capabilities.
Workshops in Uruguay led by U.S. experts on topics such as technology entrepreneurship, international trade, and accessing the U.S. market.
Trade missions to the United States for emerging Uruguayan business leaders to attract U.S. investment.
Forums featuring U.S. experts on democracy, freedom of the press, and countering disinformation.
Teacher training programs with U.S. specialists in innovative educational methodologies, such as project-based learning, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), and the integration of artificial intelligence in education.
Training sessions for security or law enforcement professionals led by U.S. experts on the safe and ethical use of technology.
Conditions and Requirements:

The Alianza Cultural Uruguay–Estados Unidos will serve as the partner organization responsible for managing the funds and overseeing the implementation of the selected projects. Organizations selected for funding must possess a valid Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) registration number to receive funds. For-profit companies and entities are not eligible to apply.
