The Philippines, led by the DICT, is accelerating its digital transformation, creating jobs and expanding digital services nationwide.

The Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is intensifying its efforts to accelerate digital transformation across the Philippines. Recent initiatives in Davao City and the CALABARZON region clearly demonstrate the nation's commitment to comprehensive economic empowerment and secure digital adoption. These efforts align with the Marcos Jr. administration's "Bagong Pilipinas" (New Philippines) vision, aiming for a connected and resilient future.

Davao City Boosts Digital Job Creation and ICT Empowerment

DICT Region 11 celebrated "National ICT Month" in Davao City with a strong focus on creating digital jobs and enhancing digital literacy across the community. Notably, a job fair held on June 27 received a significant turnout. Sixteen companies participated, offering approximately 800 digital and tech-based employment opportunities. This initiative particularly helped bridge the employment gap for vulnerable job seekers and highlighted the importance of an accessible and future-ready workforce.

Beyond job creation, DICT Region 11 introduced various complementary initiatives. Cybersecurity awareness training and user briefings were conducted to promote secure digital transactions. Web accessibility training was also provided, reaffirming the agency's commitment to inclusive digital access.

To ensure digital opportunities reach all segments of society, the DICT extended digital literacy training to marginalized and vulnerable groups, including Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, the LGBTQIA+ community, and Barangay Health Workers. Evangeline Dela Rosa, DICT Region 11 Director, stated that these initiatives are part of the government's broader goal to create 8 million digital jobs by 2028.

"This year's celebration delivers a powerful message: that digital transformation is not merely about technological advancement but, above all, a people-centered movement," Dela Rosa emphasized. "It is important that every Filipino, especially Dabawenyos, regardless of their background, location, or ability, has the opportunity to be part of a connected, inclusive, and empowered digital society."

CALABARZON Region Successfully Expands e-Gov (eGov PH) Super App Adoption

Meanwhile, in the CALABARZON region, the e-Gov (eGov PH) Super App has surpassed 2 million downloads, a significant indicator of increasing public interest in digital services. Launched in June 2023, the app serves as a centralized platform that streamlines access to essential government services, allowing users to complete transactions, verify digital IDs, and interact more efficiently with agencies.

Felix Tabanao Jr., DICT CALABARZON Regional Director, noted that the CALABARZON region ranks second highest in eGov PH app downloads among the 17 regions nationwide. Primary users hail from Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Batangas, and Quezon.

He observed that "the public is actively embracing digitalization and accessing government services through a single app," highlighting eTravel and the digital National ID as among the most frequently used features.

The app also supports the government's goal of fostering a business-friendly environment by streamlining bureaucratic processes. Currently, 25 services are integrated, including digital ID versions such as the National ID, Senior Citizen's ID, PRC (Professional Regulation Commission) License, PhilHealth, and OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker) e-cards. Integration of e-TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) and PWD IDs is currently underway.

Beyond enhancing convenience and efficiency, the platform has helped reduce barriers for Filipinos who previously faced challenges such as long queues, limited mobility, and distant service centers, especially in rural and underserved areas. The digital format ensures services are accessible anytime, anywhere, empowering citizens to handle their administrative needs with ease. This convenience is particularly beneficial for busy working parents, students, and remote workers who rely on quick and efficient access to public services.

To protect user trust and data, the DICT continuously strengthens the app's cybersecurity infrastructure through AI-powered monitoring, two-factor authentication, and other multi-layered safeguards. These efforts run in parallel with Davao's cybersecurity awareness campaigns, demonstrating a nationwide emphasis on secure digital engagement.

These developments showcase DICT's integrated approach to fostering a digitally empowered Philippines. Whether through direct employment initiatives or expanding access to government services, these regional efforts are creating an inclusive, secure, and opportunity-rich digital future that aligns with the Marcos Jr. administration's vision of a connected and resilient "New Philippines." The DICT will continue to lead digital innovations to improve the quality of life for the Filipino people and enhance national competitiveness.
