Chungcheongnam-do (South Chungcheong Province) has set its sights on a significant boost to the regional economy, announcing a comprehensive '2025 Job Creation Implementation Plan' aimed at generating 100,000 new employment opportunities. The ambitious initiative, backed by a substantial investment of 938.3 billion KRW (nearly one trillion won), was unveiled on March 26th and represents the third phase of the province's broader job creation strategy under the current local government.

The core objective of the plan is to establish a robust and sustainable foundation for job growth by developing tailored infrastructure and identifying key projects that align with the unique characteristics of the Chungnam region. The overarching vision is to cultivate "Strong Chungnam Jobs Growing Towards the Future," with specific targets including the creation of 100,000 new local jobs and the achievement of a 70.4% employment rate for the working-age population (15-64 years).

The significant budget allocation of 938.3 billion KRW will be strategically distributed across 131 detailed projects spanning various sectors. A substantial portion, 430.7 billion KRW, is earmarked for direct job creation initiatives. Furthermore, 289.2 billion KRW will be invested in developing essential job infrastructure, while 66.6 billion KRW is allocated for employment services, 65.1 billion KRW for business support, and 86.7 billion KRW for employment incentives and vocational training programs.

Looking ahead, the provincial government intends to prioritize the diversification of its key industries to foster the creation of future-oriented jobs and enhance its resilience to regional employment challenges. Key initiatives currently underway, such as the development of the Chungnam Bio-Cluster, the pursuit of designation as an Opportunity Development Zone, and the commitment to leading a green and low-carbon economy, are expected to play a crucial role in driving economic growth and expanding job prospects for the long term.

The plan also places a strong emphasis on supporting vulnerable segments of the population. Tailored programs will be implemented to facilitate the social participation and employment of women with career breaks, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities. For the youth, customized job support will be offered across diverse fields, including traditional employment, entrepreneurship, and agriculture, with the aim of fostering self-reliance and economic independence.

In addition to direct job creation, Chungnam Province will focus on connecting job seekers with quality companies and strengthening community-based care systems. This dual approach aims to address both labor shortages and gaps in care services, while simultaneously generating specialized employment opportunities within the care sector.

Park Jong-bok, Head of the province's Economic Planning Division, expressed confidence in the plan's potential, stating, "This year, we plan to resolve the labor shortage in the region and revitalize the local economy through job creation projects tailored to the characteristics of Chungnam." He further emphasized the commitment to ongoing collaboration with relevant organizations and experts to continuously refine and develop effective local job creation strategies.

The '2025 Job Creation Implementation Plan' is a publicly available document and can be accessed on the Chungnam Provincial Government website (https://www.chungnam.go.kr/main.do) and the Regional Employment Information Network (www.reis.or.kr). This initiative underscores the local government's commitment to proactively addressing employment challenges and fostering economic prosperity for the residents of Chungcheongnam-do.
