Swedish premium electric vehicle brand Polestar's Polestar 4 topped import EV sales in January, surpassing Tesla. According to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association, Polestar 4 sold 103 units in January, accounting for approximately 16% of the import EV market share. This figure overwhelms the 5 units sold by the Tesla Model Y during the same period.

Factors Behind Polestar 4's Success
** ground-breaking design **: The unique design without a rear window, spacious second-row seats, and coupe-like silhouette add to the charm of the Polestar 4.
Competitive Price: The Polestar 4's price in the Korean market starts at 66.9 million won, the lowest among global markets.
Self-Subsidy Support: Polestar's policy of independently supporting subsidies in January and February, before electric vehicle subsidies are finalized, led to an increase in sales.
Renault Korea Busan Plant to Produce on Consignment
The Polestar 4 is scheduled to be produced on consignment at the Renault Korea Busan plant starting in the second half of this year. Through domestic production, Polestar is expected to further strengthen its position in the Korean market. In addition, Polestar 4, produced in Busan, will be exported to global markets such as North America as well as domestic sales. Some predict that Korean batteries will be installed in Polestar 4 produced in Korea.

Polestar 4's Popularity, Future Prospects?
Polestar 4 achieved the top sales of imported electric vehicles in January through its groundbreaking design, competitive price, and aggressive marketing strategy. When production begins at the Renault Korea Busan plant, sales of the Polestar 4 are expected to increase further. Attention is focused on whether Polestar 4 can stop Tesla's monopoly and create a new trend in the imported electric vehicle market.
