The Gangwon Tourism Organization (CEO Choi Sung-hyun, hereinafter referred to as the "Organization"), in collaboration with the Gangwon Regional Headquarters of the Small Enterprise and Market Service (Headquarters Director Kang Sung-han), announced that it will host the "Find the Weekend Santa" event around the Mt. Mindungsan area in Jeongseon on Saturday, November 7. The event aims to promote the "Gangwon Top 20 Mountains Certification Challenge" while boosting local tourism and traditional markets.
Since 2024, the Gangwon Tourism Organization has been organizing "Find the Weekend Santa" to combine hiking and experiential tourism centered around Gangwon’s 20 major mountains, enhancing the joy of hiking through on-site events and activities. Mt. Mindungsan in Jeongseon is a premier hiking destination famous for its autumn silver grass. During the peak season of silver grass blooming, hikers flock to the mountain to enjoy both the breathtaking autumn scenery and the hiking experience.
This event will feature the "Find Santa" interactive activity. Participants can take and verify photos of "Santas" hidden throughout Mt. Mindungsan and Gugongtan Market to receive a variety of gifts. In addition to climbing Mt. Mindungsan, participants can explore every corner of Gugongtan Market, experiencing local food and the unique charm of the traditional market. By naturally connecting the hike with a market visit, the event promises to deliver a unique and delightful experience to all participants.
Furthermore, by encouraging participants to visit Gugongtan Market after their hike on Mt. Mindungsan, the event aims to vitalize stay-over tourism linked with local traditional markets and contribute to expanding local consumer spending by drawing mountain tourists into regional commercial districts.
Choi Sung-hyun, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Organization, stated, "This event connects local tourism and traditional markets by allowing visitors to experience not only the hike up Mt. Mindungsan but also Jeongseon Gugongtan Market. We hope that tourists visiting Gangwon's Top 20 Mountains will enjoy the pleasure of hiking alongside local flavors and culture, and keep the charm of Jeongseon in their memories for a long time."
Detailed information about this event can be found in the notices section on the Gangwon Tourism Organization website (www.gwto.or.kr).
