Yongin, South Korea – Jukjeon Library and Seongbok Library in Yongin City have been selected to operate multicultural programs as part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's '2025 Library Multicultural Service Support Project.' These initiatives aim to foster cultural understanding and provide valuable resources to both multicultural families and the broader community.

Jukjeon Library's "Multicultural Correspondents"

Jukjeon Library is set to launch its "Multicultural Correspondents" program from June to July, targeting multicultural families and general adults. This program will feature a series of engaging lectures designed to deepen understanding of four distinct cultures: Turkey, Nepal, the United Kingdom, and Italy. Renowned speakers from each country will lead the sessions, offering unique insights into their respective homelands.

The inaugural lecture, titled "Communicating Through Culture: Turkey and Korea," will host 50 participants. Applications for this session will open on June 21 at 10:00 AM, on a first-come, first-served basis, via the Jukjeon Library website. Subsequent lectures will delve into the rich tapestry of Nepalese culture with Sujan Shakya, explore British traditions with Peter Bint, and journey through Italian heritage with Cristina Confalonieri. Specific dates and application details for these sessions will be announced on the library's website.

Seongbok Library's Global Explorations

Seongbok Library will cater to a younger audience in June with "Meeting Neighboring Countries Through Picture Books," a program for elementary school students that uses original language picture books to offer cultural experiences. In August, "Language Sprout! Culture Bloom!" will help children understand cultures by learning their languages. For multicultural families and general adults, July will feature "Picture Book Reading for Multicultural Families."

The "Meeting Neighboring Countries Through Picture Books" program will kick off with a "Chinese Culture" class, where participants will read Chinese picture books and engage in related craft activities. Registration for this program opens on June 22 at 10:00 AM, also on a first-come, first-served basis, through the Seongbok Library website. Further sessions are expected to explore other cultures, though specific details are yet to be released. The "Language Sprout! Culture Bloom!" program in August will likely expand on this linguistic and cultural immersion, offering a deeper dive into the nuances of different languages and their cultural contexts.

For detailed lecture schedules, application dates, and further inquiries, please visit the official websites of Jukjeon Library and Seongbok Library, or contact them directly by phone: Jukjeon Library at 031-6193-1656 and Seongbok Library at 031-6193-1703. These programs represent a significant effort to build a more inclusive and culturally aware community in Yongin City.
