South Chungcheong Province, SOUTH KOREA – April 5, 2025 – South Chungcheong Province is strategically positioning its local businesses for significant export growth by targeting the burgeoning market of Northeast China. The province announced its participation in the upcoming 34th Harbin International Economic and Trade Fair, scheduled to take place from May 17th to 21st in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province.

The Harbin International Economic and Trade Fair stands as a premier international trade event, attracting an estimated 200,000 attendees from over 80 countries. The expansive 70,000 square meter exhibition center will host approximately 3,000 booths, providing a significant platform for businesses to showcase their products and forge international partnerships.

Recognizing the immense potential of this market, South Chungcheong Province will operate a dedicated "Chungnam Pavilion" at the fair. The initiative aims to facilitate market entry and boost exports for the region's small and medium-sized venture enterprises (SMVs). Authorities are actively seeking applications from 10 eligible SMVs with headquarters or manufacturing facilities within the province to participate in this strategic endeavor. The deadline for applications is April 11th.

The province is particularly interested in recruiting companies specializing in daily consumer goods, including a diverse range of food products, cosmetics and beauty supplies, and practical household items. This focus aligns with the growing consumer demand in Northeast China and the types of products South Chungcheong businesses are well-positioned to supply.

However, certain eligibility criteria apply. Companies currently under closure or bankruptcy, large corporations and their subsidiaries, related public institutions, entities classified as poor credit risks by financial institutions, and those with outstanding national or local tax obligations are not eligible to participate in the Chungnam Pavilion.

Interested businesses are encouraged to submit their applications through the South Chungcheong Province Online Export Support System (cntrade.chungnam.go.kr). Further inquiries can be directed to the Provincial Investment and Trade Policy Division at ☎041-635-3361.

A spokesperson for South Chungcheong Province emphasized the strategic importance of the Chinese market, stating, "China remains our province's largest export destination. Notably, the three northeastern provinces – Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning – are pivotal as the central government's established industrial heartland. With the ongoing Northeast Asia comprehensive opening-up project, this region presents unparalleled opportunities for growth and collaboration."

The province is committed to providing comprehensive support to participating companies. Beyond the trade fair itself, South Chungcheong Province plans to offer follow-up programs to facilitate the entry of local businesses into physical retail spaces in the region. Furthermore, the province intends to leverage its existing overseas offices in China to provide sustained support for market expansion into both China and the burgeoning Central Asian markets. This proactive approach underscores South Chungcheong's dedication to fostering long-term international trade relationships and bolstering its regional economy.
