Hanoi, Vietnam – Vietnam has officially inaugurated the Vietnam Semiconductor Innovation Centre (VSIC) in Hanoi, a significant stride in its ambitious plan to cultivate a robust and sustainable semiconductor industry. The launch event, hosted at the newly established facility, was a collaborative effort between the National Innovation Centre (NIC), the Ministry of Finance, and key partners in the semiconductor technology sector. The ceremony also marked the introduction of a dedicated semiconductor startup incubation space, designed to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship within this high-tech domain.

The establishment of the VSIC is a cornerstone of Vietnam's broader strategy to become a significant player in the global semiconductor value chain. Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Minister of Finance underscored the pivotal role of the centre and the startup incubation space in creating a vital nexus connecting Vietnamese startups with universities, research institutions, and businesses both domestically and internationally.

This collaborative environment is expected to accelerate the development of a highly skilled workforce essential for the semiconductor sector. Furthermore, it will provide crucial support for local startups, enabling them to scale and succeed in this competitive field, ultimately driving technological advancement across the nation.

The Director of NIC emphasized that the launch of the VSIC signifies a crucial milestone in Vietnam's determined efforts to emerge as a global leader in semiconductor innovation. This initiative is strategically aligned with the Vietnamese Party and State's overarching policy of promoting science, technology, and innovation through effective public-private partnerships.

Fueled by this strong commitment, Vietnam's semiconductor industry is poised for rapid expansion. Ambitious goals include the training of 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2025 and the establishment of 100 chip design companies nationwide.

The Chairman of a leading Vietnamese technology conglomerate hailed the VSIC launch as a watershed moment not only for the semiconductor industry but also as a clear demonstration of Vietnam's unwavering dedication to advancing technology and fostering innovation. He noted that the centre's establishment would be instrumental in nurturing local talent and significantly enhancing the country's competitiveness in the global semiconductor market, positioning Vietnam as a dynamic regional hub for innovation and investment.

A senior representative from a key international semiconductor partner emphasized the strategic importance of the VSIC, describing its inauguration as far more than just the opening of a new facility. It is envisioned as a crucial gateway to unlock the vast potential of Vietnam's technical talent, providing unparalleled opportunities to foster innovation and accelerate breakthroughs in semiconductor technology.

The VSIC is expected to play a critical role in bridging the existing gap between the local and international semiconductor industries, fostering vital collaborations, and further elevating Vietnam's standing in the global market.

The Deputy Minister of Finance also commended the successful collaboration between NIC, key industry partners, and other stakeholders in the collective effort to develop a thriving semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam. He stressed that sustained and robust collaboration between the public and private sectors will be indispensable for the country to keep pace with the relentless march of global technological trends and solidify its position as a key player in the global semiconductor landscape.

The launch of the VSIC reaffirms the unwavering commitment of NIC and its partners to cultivate a dynamic and prosperous semiconductor ecosystem within Vietnam. The centre's core focus will encompass strategic resource gathering, the provision of high-quality human resource training programs, and comprehensive support for the development and growth of startups operating within the semiconductor sector.

This ambitious initiative is strategically designed to enhance Vietnam's integration into the intricate global semiconductor value chain, attract significant foreign investment, promote the development of local talent, and ultimately strengthen its position as a prominent regional hub for technological innovation.

To further bolster these efforts, NIC and its partners are actively collaborating with leading global technology companies to offer valuable scholarships and specialized technical training programs for semiconductor students across approximately 40 Vietnamese universities.

Furthermore, these concerted efforts have already yielded significant success in attracting substantial investment from prominent international technology conglomerates. This influx of capital will be instrumental in driving the continued growth of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam and firmly establishing the nation as a significant player in the global market. This initiative will also contribute to expanding Vietnam's technological influence on a global scale, fostering further international cooperation and collaboration in this critical sector.
