SEOUL — Seegene Medical Foundation (SMF), a specialized medical institution for disease testing and diagnostics, announced today its relocation to its new headquarters, the "Seegene Medical Tower," in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, commemorating the institution’s 35th anniversary.
The Seegene Medical Tower is a massive research and medical complex, standing approximately 100 meters tall with a scale of 19 floors above ground and six basement levels, encompassing a total floor area of about 56,198 square meters (17,000 pyeong). The new facility is equipped with an advanced testing and research environment, including the world's first fully automated platform for the entire process of molecular diagnostics (PCR testing), the largest automated testing system in Korea, and SMF’s independently developed next-generation testing information system. Furthermore, it integrates four specialized research institutes focused on molecular diagnostics, mass spectrometry, immunology, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The building’s exterior design features a sleek and open aesthetic, achieved through the application of white curtain walls, vertical louvers, and transparent glass finishes. The strategic location, with the building adjacent to roads on all four sides, ensures high accessibility. The architectural design itself embodies the foundation's Corporate Identity, 'See Gene' (to look at genes), and reflects the image of an institution that illuminates hope 365 days a year for the health and happiness of humanity.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a colossal 790-inch 8K LED media wall in the first-floor lobby. The interior structure is functionally specialized across different floors.
The 5th floor is dedicated to the Health Promotion Center, which offers comprehensive health screening services. Floors 6 and 7 house the corporate research institute of SG BioScience and SG BioScience itself, where development of diagnostic reagents and medical technology research are actively underway.
Floors 8 through 13 are central to the foundation's diagnostic and research operations. This section accommodates the Automated Testing Center, Diagnostic Testing Center, Molecular Diagnostic Testing Center, Environmental Life Testing Center, along with the Immunology Research Institute, Molecular Diagnostics Research Institute, Mass Spectrometry Research Institute, and the R&D business division. The 15th floor is home to the Pathology Center and the AI Research Institute.
On the 16th floor is Open Healthcare, a global healthcare company established by SMF to spearhead its entry into the international medical market. Open Healthcare provides a range of integrated Korean-style medical services, including diagnostic testing, clinics, self-testing, comprehensive health check-ups, and international patient attraction in countries such as Kazakhstan, the United States, and Vietnam.
The 18th floor features the Seegene Art Hall, a multi-purpose space of approximately 661 square meters (200 pyeong) designed for international seminars, education, performances, banquets, and even wedding ceremonies. Its design incorporates a fully open front facade, offering an unobstructed view of the eastern part of Seoul. A professional video and broadcasting studio is also operated here to support the production of academic seminars, educational content, and promotional videos. The rooftop garden provides an urban oasis with seasonal flower gardens and viewing spaces for enjoying nature amid the city landscape.
Alongside the relocation, Seegene Medical Foundation has activated its global standard next-generation laboratory information system, ‘SeeLIS,’ which was developed over approximately three years of dedicated research and development. Furthermore, the foundation has enhanced efficiency and safety by implementing the AI-based tissue pathology diagnosis quality control system, ‘SeeDP,’ and the full-area Intelligent Building System (IBS).
"The Seegene Medical Tower symbolizes Seegene Medical Foundation's vision for advancing human health and future medicine," stated Cheon Jong-ki, Chairman of SMF. "With our testing centers established in the four major metropolitan cities—Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, and Daejeon—we have completed a nationwide single-unified diagnostic testing network. We will continue our leap forward as a world-class specialized institution for disease testing."
To celebrate the move, Seegene Medical Foundation plans to host a ‘Future Lab Tour’ program from October 29 to 31, inviting experts from the field of diagnostic laboratory medicine. Pre-registered participants will be offered a firsthand experience of the foundation's state-of-the-art automation systems and research facilities.
