Haegeum, Gayageum, Ajaeng, and Modeumbuk Take the Stage Together

The clear, harmonious voices of young boys rise, accompanied by the flowing melody of the haegeum and the rhythmic beats of the modeumbuk. Catholic hymns blend seamlessly with traditional Korean music.
The Gwangju Catholic Peace Broadcasting Corporation (cpbc) announced on the 8th that the Fiat Domini Boys' Choir will hold a regular concert to celebrate its 12th anniversary at the Cathedral of the Gwangju Archdiocese on the 11th.
Founded in October 2014, the Fiat Domini Boys' Choir takes its name from the Latin phrase meaning "Thy will be done." Currently consisting of 30 members ranging from first-grade elementary school to second-grade middle school, the choir has been active in regular concerts and invitation performances under the guidance of Conductor Baek Jung-bin, Accompanist Park Ji-soo, and Vocal Coach Cheon Gi-yeon.
Commemorating the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day
This upcoming performance has been prepared in anticipation of the 2027 World Youth Day (WYD) in Seoul. WYD is an international Catholic youth event where young people from all around the world gather to share their faith and culture. Ahead of the Seoul event in 2027, related gatherings will also be held within the Gwangju Archdiocese.
Designed as a prayer of praise expressed through music in preparation for the WYD, the concert’s theme aligns directly with the official scripture of the 2027 Seoul WYD: "Take courage, I have overcome the world." The performance is divided into five parts, using each line of the official WYD prayer as a sub-theme to weave a cohesive narrative.
Merging Catholic Choral Music with Traditional Korean Sounds
The standout highlight of this concert is the unique encounter between the boys' choir and Korean traditional music (gugak).
Alongside the Fiat Domini Orchestra, renowned traditional musicians will take the stage: modeumbuk player Ahn Yeon-seob, along with haegeum player Kim Min-hee, gayageum player Kim Sung-yi, and ajaeng player Jin Sun-kyung, all from the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated City Traditional Orchestra.
The blending of the boys' choir and orchestral melodies with the unique timbres of the haegeum, gayageum, ajaeng, and modeumbuk is set to deliver a breathtaking stage where sacred hymns and Korean traditional music converge.
An official from the Gwangju Catholic Peace Broadcasting Corporation stated, "Through this regular concert featuring traditional Korean instrumentalists alongside an orchestra, we hope to present a truly special stage where hymns and traditional music harmonize."
The 11th regular concert of the Fiat Domini Boys' Choir will take place at 4:00 PM on the 11th at the Cathedral of the Gwangju Archdiocese. For more information, please contact the Management Support Bureau of the Gwangju Catholic Peace Broadcasting Corporation at 062-231-7700.
