NAEPO, SOUTH KOREA – The Chungnam Social Service Center (CSSC), under the leadership of Director Kim Young-ok, convened a significant policy meeting on Wednesday, April 2nd, fostering collaboration with 15 cities and counties within the Chungcheongnam-do province. Held at the CSSC's Education Seminar Room in Naepo, the forum aimed to enhance the network between the regional social service hub and local administrative bodies, promoting the CSSC's policy research capabilities and addressing pressing local issues.
The day's agenda was divided into two key sessions, catering to the diverse needs of the participating municipalities. The morning session focused on social security, drawing representatives responsible for social welfare from across the region. Kim Sun-mi, a distinguished research fellow from the CSSC's Social Security Research Team, presented the current status of local community social security plan implementation and the support provided by the Center. This was followed by an engaging interactive session where city and county representatives raised pertinent questions and engaged in lively discussions.
Key topics that emerged during the social security session included the potential integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping future welfare policies, strategies to combat the growing issue of social isolation deaths, and the crucial matter of improving the working conditions and overall treatment of social welfare professionals. Participants collectively recognized the significance of these discussions and agreed on the necessity of incorporating these insights into upcoming research initiatives tailored to the specific needs of each city and county.
The afternoon session shifted its focus to women and family issues, welcoming officials specializing in these areas. Tae Hee-won, the head of the CSSC's Women & Family Research Team, delivered a presentation centered on the transformative impact of gender impact assessments on the lives of Chungnam residents. This was followed by a similar format of questions, answers, and open dialogue.
Notably, a proactive proposal was put forth by representatives from Cheonan City, outlining potential collaborations on a network for women-friendly cities and the development of a dedicated tour route commemorating female independence activists in the region. The latter initiative garnered considerable enthusiasm, with widespread support for future research to facilitate its realization. Further discussions during the Q&A period touched upon the intricacies of establishing and maintaining women-friendly city designations and the methodologies for conducting comprehensive multicultural status surveys.
A recurring point of emphasis was the need for regular, specialized training for personnel involved in conducting gender impact assessments. In response, the Chungnam Gender Impact Assessment Center provided attendees with information regarding upcoming workshops designed for city and county staff. The Center also reiterated its commitment to exploring various avenues of support, including tailored training programs and expert consultation services, to empower local governments in their endeavors.
Concluding the successful event, CSSC Director Kim Young-ok underscored the importance of the meeting as a foundation for sustained collaboration. "We envision this forum as the starting point for a robust and enduring network between the Chungnam Social Service Center and the 15 cities and counties," Director Kim stated. "Through continuous interaction and mutual cooperation, we aim to collectively enhance the well-being of all Chungnam residents."
This policy meeting signifies the Chungnam Social Service Center's proactive approach to engaging with local governments, ensuring that its research and support initiatives are directly aligned with the needs and challenges faced by communities across the province. The discussions held are expected to inform future policy recommendations and collaborative projects, ultimately contributing to a more robust and responsive social service ecosystem in Chungcheongnam-do.
