"Newborn Heading Home": Handwritten Sign Moves Hearts on Korean Roads

In an era where road rage and aggressive driving often dominate the headlines, a simple, handwritten sign on the back of a car has sparked a wave of warmth and celebration across South Korea. The message, scrawled plainly on a piece of paper and taped to a trunk, read: “Newborn heading home.”

A Moving Sight in Yangpyeong
The story began when a photo was uploaded to a popular social media platform with the hashtag #Scenery and a brief caption: "Wow, congratulations!" The image, captured near Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, showed a vehicle carefully navigating the road. Unlike the standard "Baby on Board" stickers, this raw, handwritten note signaled a milestone moment: a mother and her newborn leaving the postpartum care center to start their life at home.

The photo quickly went viral, garnering thousands of likes and emotional comments. Netizens, touched by the vulnerability and pride displayed in the message, responded with overwhelming support. One user commented, "I thought it was just a student driver, but it’s actually a newborn! Congratulations to the family." Another added, "I can almost see the father’s nervous yet proud expression while driving. We should treat this like an official escort vehicle."

The "Pumpkin Carriage" Father Responds
The story took an even more touching turn when the driver of the vehicle discovered the post and left a heartfelt comment. Identifying himself as the father, he expressed his surprise at the sudden attention.

"I never expected our princess’s 'Pumpkin Carriage' to receive so much love," he wrote. "This is our second child, but my wife and I were still sweating with nerves as we drove slowly from Hanam to Yangpyeong."
He expressed his deep gratitude to his fellow drivers, noting that even though he was driving at a very low speed in the slow lane, other motorists were incredibly patient and gave them plenty of space. "My wife and I spent our lunch reading every single comment. Your blessings mean the world to us. We promise to raise her to be happy and healthy," he added.

A Family Tradition of Love
To further share the joy, the father posted a follow-up image on his personal SNS, showcasing "Pumpkin Carriage No. 1"—the car used for his first daughter years ago—alongside the current "Pumpkin Carriage No. 2." The side-by-side photos highlight a beautiful family tradition of celebrating life's most precious first journey.

In a fast-paced society, this "handwritten miracle" serves as a gentle reminder of the communal joy a new life brings, turning a mundane highway into a celebratory parade route.
