Faro, Portugal - Águas do Algarve (AdA), the regional water company, has officially opened the "Pavilhão de Águas" (Water Pavilion), a new exhibition in Faro dedicated to raising awareness about the critical importance of water conservation.
Located at Jardim das Figuras near the Forum Algarve shopping center, the pavilion was inaugurated on Sunday, December 15th, in a ceremony attended by Portugal's Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, and Faro Mayor, Rogério Bacalhau, among other distinguished guests.
"The creation of the Water Pavilion comes at a time of growing concern over climate change and water scarcity, particularly within the Algarve region," AdA stated in a press release. "This project seeks to educate the public about the challenges we face and emphasize the role of each individual in protecting this vital resource."
The interactive exhibition invites visitors to explore the water cycle, understand the impacts of climate change, discover ways to reuse water, and learn about innovative solutions being implemented to ensure the sustainability of water supply and wastewater management.
Equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as augmented reality, simulators, and interactive workshops, the exhibition promises to offer unique and engaging experiences for visitors of all ages. A noteworthy feature is the "mural of commitments," where visitors can pledge to adopt sustainable water practices.
The pavilion will be open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday (excluding public holidays) from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The opening ceremony also witnessed the signing of two significant technical collaboration protocols. The first, with the municipality of Castro Marim, focuses on rehabilitating the local sanitation network to reduce saline water intrusion and promote agricultural water reuse. The second, with Mértola and Águas Públicas do Alentejo, addresses the implementation of long-term solutions to guarantee access to safe drinking water for local communities. Both agreements were endorsed by Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho, according to AdA.
