Boryeong - An international venue for cooperation and discussion on the transition to a carbon-neutral society opened in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province. The 9th South Chungcheong Province Carbon Neutrality International Conference, hosted by South Chungcheong Province, kicked off at the Boryeong Mud Theme Park. With the theme of 'Transition to a Carbon-Neutral Economy and Expansion of Cooperation,' the conference will run for three days starting today, with over 1,500 participants from 11 countries expected to engage in in-depth discussions on responding to the climate crisis.

The event is divided into three sessions: △Transition to a Carbon-Neutral Society, △Strategy for the Future, and △Citizen Participation and Role. Each session is expected to address innovative solutions to the carbon neutrality challenges faced by national and local governments, businesses, and civil society. The conference is anticipated to go beyond simple academic exchange and serve as a platform for seeking concrete roadmaps that can lead to tangible climate action.

South Chungcheong Province, a Special Province for a Carbon-Neutral Economy, Accelerates Renewable Energy Transition

South Chungcheong Province has declared itself a ‘Special Province for a Carbon-Neutral Economy’ and is playing a leading role in responding to the climate crisis. In particular, it is actively investing in the transition to renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydrogen power, and is committed to building a sustainable energy system. The province's efforts demonstrate the importance of the three key elements—institutional support from national and local governments, corporate innovation, and public action—in achieving carbon neutrality goals.

MOU Signed for a Geumgang Estuary Vegetation Fuelization Project

At the opening ceremony of the conference, an MOU signing ceremony for the 'Geumgang Estuary Vegetation RE-BORN Project' also took place, drawing attention. The agreement, involving four organizations—South Chungcheong Province, Seocheon County, Korea Midland Power, and Chungnam Development Corporation—is an innovative attempt to recycle floating vegetation from the Geumgang Estuary into eco-friendly fuel. This is seen as a exemplary case for building a circular economy model that turns waste into resources while simultaneously addressing local environmental issues.

The conference is expected to be an opportunity to once again emphasize the importance of international cooperation in responding to the climate crisis. It is hoped that this event, led by South Chungcheong Province, will serve as a catalyst for promoting climate action among countries and local governments around the world.
