SEOUL — Xiaomi Korea has officially announced the domestic launch of its latest mid-range powerhouse, the POCO X8 Pro series. Starting with pre-orders on April 1, 2026, the company aims to disrupt the value-for-money smartphone market by emphasizing massive silicon-carbon batteries and ultra-fast charging capabilities. The devices are scheduled for official release on April 7.
The POCO brand, originally launched by Xiaomi in 2018 to target the Indian market, has evolved into a global favorite alongside the Redmi series. Known for catering to price-sensitive consumers who refuse to compromise on performance, POCO’s latest entry into South Korea represents a strategic push to capture the "open market" (unlocked) and budget-friendly MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) segments.
Performance Meets Unrivaled Endurance
The POCO X8 Pro series stands out in a crowded mid-range market by prioritizing hardware specs that rival flagship models. The standard POCO X8 Pro is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, supporting up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Its standout feature is a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, a high-density technology that allows for greater capacity without significantly increasing the device's physical footprint.
For power users, the POCO X8 Pro Max pushes boundaries even further. It features the upgraded Dimensity 9500s chipset and offers up to 16GB of RAM. Most notably, it houses a massive 8,500mAh battery, one of the largest ever seen in a mainstream smartphone release in Korea. Both models support 100W wired fast charging and 27W reverse charging, allowing the phones to serve as portable power banks for other gadgets.
Tailored for the Korean Consumer
Xiaomi’s strategy in Korea has matured significantly over the past year. Beyond just raw specs, the company is focusing on "localization" to improve the user experience. A key example is the integration of T-Money based transportation card functions, which has been expanded from flagship models to these affordable mid-range devices. This feature is a critical factor for Korean consumers who rely heavily on mobile payments and transit services.
Industry experts believe the POCO X8 Pro series will appeal strongly to two specific demographics: young users who prioritize gaming and media consumption—requiring long battery life—and professionals seeking a high-performance "second phone" for work or delivery services.

The pre-order period runs from April 1 to April 6, offering various configurations to meet different budget needs:

"By combining extreme battery efficiency with high-tier chipsets at an aggressive price point, we are filling a gap in the Korean market that traditional manufacturers have overlooked," stated a representative from Xiaomi Korea. As the demand for unlocked phones grows among tech-savvy Korean consumers, the POCO X8 Pro series is expected to provide a formidable alternative to established local brands.
With the official launch set for April 7, all eyes are on whether Xiaomi can successfully leverage its "performance-per-won" philosophy to secure a permanent foothold in the competitive Korean mobile landscape.
