The Daejeon Metropolitan City Waterworks Authority will fully operate the '2025 Water Love School' and 'Visiting Tap Water Exploration Class,' experiential education programs aimed at instilling in elementary and middle school students, the future generation, the preciousness of water and a correct understanding of tap water.
This program is designed to spread a positive image of tap water and foster a sense of environmental responsibility.
The Water Love School will run from April to December at locations such as the Songchon and Sintanjin Water Purification Plants, the Jeonmin-dong Sewage Treatment Plant, and the Daecheong Dam Water Culture Center.
Participating students will directly experience the entire water circulation process on-site, from the sewage treatment plant to the water purification plant and finally to their homes.
Particularly this year, a new tour course linked to the Daecheong Dam water source will be piloted, allowing for an integrated understanding of the entire process from the beginning of purification to its completion. Based on the results of this pilot operation, the course will be expanded and implemented starting next year.
For schools where on-site visits are difficult, the 'Visiting Tap Water Exploration Class' will also be operated concurrently. Targeting 4th and 5th graders in Daejeon, experts from the Water Quality Research Institute will visit schools directly to introduce the water purification process and highlight the safety and excellence of tap water through water quality experiments.
Park Do-hyun, head of the Waterworks Authority, stated, "This educational program is a valuable opportunity for students to learn about tap water by directly seeing, touching, and feeling it." He added, "We will cooperate with related organizations such as the Office of Education, the Facilities Management Corporation, and the Korea Water Resources Corporation, and take the lead in spreading a water-loving culture together with citizens."
