Daejeon, South Korea – The Daejeon Institute of Health and Environment has launched the 'Daejeon Food Inspection Bot', the first artificial intelligence (AI) based service of its kind among local governments nationwide.

The increasing number of small food businesses, including dessert packaging vendors, side dish shops, and meal kit producers, has heightened the importance of food hygiene and quality inspections. However, traditional phone consultations have proven to be inaccessible and limited in providing timely information. To address these challenges, the institute has introduced an AI chatbot service that automates food inspection procedures and maximizes convenience for small food businesses.

The Daejeon Food Inspection Bot is an AI chatbot service accessible via KakaoTalk, providing customized guidance for food manufacturers and processors to easily and quickly access self-quality inspection information. Users can access the service for free by searching for 'Daejeon Institute of Health and Environment' on KakaoTalk or by scanning a QR code to add the channel.

The bot provides information on inspection targets, procedures, items, and fees for each food type, and includes an automated notification feature that aligns with inspection cycles, helping to prevent administrative penalties due to missed inspections. It also includes a feature that allows users to easily search and contact testing and inspection institutions.

The Daejeon Food Inspection Bot was developed through a collaboration between the Daejeon Information Culture Industry Promotion Agency and Greenda AI Co., Ltd., after being selected for the 'AI Data Support Project' led by the Daejeon City Semiconductor Bio Industry Division.

The institute has completed the first phase of distribution to food manufacturing, processing, and instant food production businesses in the region. In the future, in cooperation with the Daejeon City headquarters and autonomous district food hygiene departments, the chatbot service will be expanded in phases to all 3,000 businesses in the region.

Shin Yong-hyun, head of the Daejeon Institute of Health and Environment, said, "The Daejeon Food Inspection Bot is the nation's first AI-based food self-quality inspection guidance service, which will greatly help improve the convenience of small food businesses and enhance the accessibility of inspection services. We will continue to discover innovative administrative services and prioritize citizen safety and convenience."
