Seoul, South Korea – South Korea continued its dominance in the 2024/25 ISU Junior Short Track Speed Skating World Cup, securing four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals on the second day of competition in Bormio, Italy.
In the women's 1500m final, Kim Min-ji of Jeongwha Girls' High School clinched the first gold medal for the Korean team with a time of 2:30.750. After lurking in the middle of the pack for most of the race, Kim made a decisive move on the final lap to overtake her competitors. Her teammate Yoo Su-min finished second with a time of 2:30.862.
In the men's 1500m final, South Korean skaters also claimed the top two spots. Im Jong-eon of Nowon High School took the lead midway through the race and maintained it until the finish line, securing the gold medal. Park Seo-jun of Hwahyeong High School finished second after a strong finish on the final lap.
South Korea's dominance continued in the 1000m events. Kim Min-woo of Dankook University won the men's 1000m, overtaking Joo Jae-hee of Hankwang High School on the final lap. Joo Jae-hee, who had set a new junior world record of 1:23.508 in the preliminary round, took the bronze medal. In the women's 1000m, Jeong Jae-hee of Banpo High School won the bronze medal.
The South Korean team, consisting of Jeong Jae-hee, Kim Min-ji, Gu Min-seung, and Im Jong-eon, also won the mixed relay, narrowly defeating China in a thrilling finish.
With four gold medals in the first two days of competition, South Korea is well-positioned to add more to their tally on the final day of the competition, which includes the men's and women's 500m and the relay.
