Ocean Network Express (ONE) has accelerated its efforts to strengthen global shipping capabilities with the successful naming ceremony of its latest newbuild, the 'ONE Singapore', held in June 2025 at Imabari Shipbuilding's Hiroshima Shipyard. As the sixth vessel in a series of 20 ammonia/methanol-ready container ships, the ONE Singapore is considered a key vessel symbolizing ONE's sustainable shipping strategy.

ONE's Commitment to Sustainable Shipping The ONE Singapore is a mega-containership with a capacity of 13,900 TEU, particularly notable for its eco-friendly design that allows for the use of methanol and ammonia as fuel. This highlights ONE's strong commitment to decarbonizing the shipping industry. As environmental regulations by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) become stricter, shipping companies are making various efforts to reduce carbon emissions. In line with this trend, ONE is actively investing in the construction of vessels equipped with dual-fuel propulsion systems, aiming to lead the future eco-friendly shipping market.

A ONE official stated, "The ONE Singapore was built based on the successful operational experience of its sister vessels, including the existing ONE Sparkle." He added, "This newbuild will further enhance ONE's service capabilities and provide more stable and efficient transport services on major global trade routes." The ONE Singapore has been certified by Lloyd's Register (LR) and registered as a Singapore-flagged vessel, signifying its international recognition for safety and reliability.

ONE's Strong Ties with Singapore, Its Global Hub Jeremy Nixon, CEO of ONE, emphasized at the naming ceremony, "The naming of the ONE Singapore marks another significant step forward in ONE's fleet expansion strategy." He continued, "Named after Singapore, where our headquarters is located, this vessel symbolizes our strong ties with the vibrant Singaporean maritime ecosystem."

Since establishing its global headquarters in Singapore in 2017, ONE has become a core member of the Singaporean shipping community. The Singapore headquarters serves as the command center overseeing ONE's global network operations, contributing to consolidating ONE's position not only in Asia but also in the worldwide shipping market. CEO Nixon added, "By deploying the ONE Singapore into service, we will continue to fulfill ONE's strong commitment to Singapore as a leading international maritime hub."

ONE's Vision for a Sustainable Future The delivery of the ONE Singapore means more than just adding a vessel; it is a step that embodies ONE's strategic vision to build a more sustainable and efficient fleet. The shipping industry is a critical logistics means, handling over 90% of global trade, but it also generates significant carbon emissions. Therefore, the eco-friendly transition of the shipping industry has emerged as a crucial challenge in addressing global climate change.

Through the introduction of ammonia/methanol-ready vessels like the ONE Singapore, ONE aims to drastically reduce carbon emissions and, in the long term, lay the foundation for achieving its Net Zero goals. These efforts are expected to strengthen ONE's standing not merely as a profit-seeking company but as a global shipping company that fulfills its social responsibility and leads a sustainable future. All eyes are now on how the ONE Singapore will perform on the world's shipping routes.
