Hwang Byung-ku Re-elected as 30th President of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce

Atlanta, GA – The Korean American Chamber of Commerce (KACC), a prominent organization fostering economic ties within the Korean diaspora in the United States, has announced the re-election of Hwang Byung-ku as its 30th President. The election took place during the organization's general assembly held on June 1st in Atlanta. This marks Hwang's second tenure as president, having previously served as the 28th president.

The election process deviated from the initially planned procedure. While an election committee, chaired by Kang Seung-ku, was formed and candidate registrations were solicited, no candidates stepped forward. Consequently, the general assembly unanimously endorsed Hwang, leading to his re-election through acclamation. This move underscores the trust and confidence placed in his leadership by the KACC membership.

A formal handover ceremony followed the election, where the 29th President, Lee Kyung-chul, passed the association flag to the newly re-elected Hwang Byung-ku. Lee Kyung-chul’s single two-year term was marked by significant achievements, particularly his pivotal role in co-hosting two major international business events with the Overseas Koreans Agency. These were the 21st World Korean Business Convention in Orange County and the 23rd World Korean Business Convention in Atlanta. His efforts were instrumental in the successful execution of these high-profile gatherings, which brought together Korean business leaders and entrepreneurs from across the globe. Lee Kyung-chul, a respected businessman, operates wholesale distribution businesses for alcoholic beverages and medical products in Atlanta.

Preceding the general assembly, on May 31st, the KACC held a disbanding ceremony for the organizing committee of the 23rd World Korean Business Convention in Atlanta. The KACC has been on a roll, successfully organizing the first-ever overseas World Korean Business Convention in Orange County in October 2023. Building on that momentum, they flawlessly executed the 23rd convention in Atlanta from April 17th to 19th.

The 23rd Atlanta World Korean Business Convention, in particular, has been lauded as a monumental success. It reportedly facilitated the largest-ever volume of export and investment contracts, providing a crucial springboard for Korean small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to penetrate the vast U.S. market. This outcome highlights the KACC's commitment to supporting Korean businesses and strengthening their global competitiveness.

President Hwang Byung-ku is a prominent entrepreneur based in Orlando, Florida, where he manages a large-scale orchid farm. His prior experience in leading major business conventions is extensive. Two years ago, he served as the organizing committee chairman for the 21st Orange County World Korean Business Convention, an event he successfully guided to completion. At that time, his presidential term concluded before the Orange County convention, and he handed over the reins to Lee Kyung-chul. It's important to note that the KACC's bylaws stipulate a single two-year term for the president, meaning Hwang's re-election for the 30th term required an exception to this standard or was possible due to a break in his presidency.

Hwang's re-election is anticipated to usher in a new era of growth and enhanced collaboration for the Korean American business community. His proven leadership, coupled with the KACC's successful track record in hosting major business conventions, bodes well for future initiatives aimed at strengthening economic ties between Korean businesses and the U.S. market. The KACC is poised to continue its vital role in fostering economic opportunities and supporting the success of Korean American entrepreneurs.
