DAEJEON – The '2025 Disabled Persons IT Challenge,' an event aimed at strengthening the IT skills of people with disabilities and bridging the digital divide, is set to take place at the Daejeon e-Sports Stadium on September 16. The event is being organized by the Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency.
Beginning at 9 a.m., the event will feature a variety of programs designed to enhance practical IT skills. These include an Information Search Challenge, an eCombination Challenge (focused on spreadsheet and presentation skills), and an eContent Challenge where participants will create an Instagram Reel to introduce themselves. A highlight of the day will be the KartRider: Drift e-sports tournament, scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.
The competition is designed to be inclusive, with events tailored to participants with different types of disabilities, including developmental, physical, hearing, and visual impairments. The KartRider tournament, for instance, will be run in a tournament format by a team of professional staff, providing a fair and engaging experience for all.
This event is more than just a competition; it's an opportunity for participants to assess their abilities, connect with one another, and foster a sense of social solidarity. The core goal is to help people with disabilities in the Daejeon area discover new possibilities through technology and lead more independent and self-reliant lives.
The challenge is a collaborative effort supported by a number of organizations, including the Daejeon Center for the Support of Persons with Disabilities and the Korea Federation of Persons with Disabilities. Lee Eun-hak, the head of the Daejeon Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency, emphasized the event’s importance, stating, "It is crucial to provide people with disabilities the opportunity to showcase their abilities through IT skills. Our goal is to ensure they have more opportunities in society."
