A new wave is sweeping through Singapore's hotel industry. The Standard, Singapore, which opened to fervent interest after its soft launch last December, is the star of this movement. This hotel is charming travelers and creative professionals alike with its groundbreaking design elements and is basked in the spotlight of numerous social media platforms. Beyond being a mere accommodation, The Standard, Singapore is celebrated as a grand design masterpiece where art and culture breathe life. Let's delve into the deep allure of this hotel.

A Design Philosophy That Breaks Boundaries: Where Singapore's Essence Meets The Standard's Irreverent DNA

Amar Lalvani, President and Creative Director of Standard International, which operates The Standard brand, revealed in an interview with TTG Asia that The Standard, Singapore's design philosophy is rooted in "breaking boundaries." He explained that through collaboration with Ministry of Design, a prominent Singaporean design studio, they successfully fused the brand's "signature irreverence" with Singapore's "lush tropical sensibility."

Lalvani added that this design is embodied in "the dramatic terrarium-inspired reception desk, bespoke murals, and the lush greenery that fills every corner of the hotel." The result, he explained, is "a hotel that maintains the Standard brand’s distinct personality while deeply imbued with the spirit and vibrant atmosphere of Singapore." Indeed, The Standard, Singapore deviates from conventional, uniform hotel designs, offering visitors a fresh and bold visual experience and establishing itself as a new landmark in Singapore.

Design as Content: Every Space a Platform for Creative Inspiration

Lalvani emphasized that design has always been the greatest draw for The Standard brand, especially acting as a magnet for creative individuals. His philosophy is that the spaces at The Standard, Singapore are not merely aesthetically pleasing; they each tell their own story.

Each space in the hotel boasts a unique personality, capturing visitors' attention:

The Elevator: Utterly iconic and already a proven Instagram hot spot. It functions not just as a means of transport but as an art piece and photo zone in itself.
The Garden: Offers a dreamy green sanctuary in the heart of the city. Maximizing natural elements by leveraging Singapore's tropical climate, it provides guests with a serene and refreshing experience.
Café Standard: Billed as "the living room you always wanted," it's a perfect space for informal meetings or relaxation in a comfortable and free atmosphere. It fosters an environment where creative ideas can flow naturally.
Kaya: The hotel's Japanese restaurant, featuring bold and multi-layered design, boasting a vibrant atmosphere. Modern sensibility and traditional Japanese aesthetics are harmoniously blended, enriching the dining experience.
Lalvani stressed, "Every space is designed to feed your feed, fuel your mind, and even spark your next big idea." This demonstrates The Standard, Singapore's commitment to continuously inspire visitors and provide an environment where creativity can flourish, going beyond mere accommodation.

A Spectacular Grand Opening: An Immersive Experience Forged by the Fusion of Design and Culture

At the official launch party held on June 4, The Standard, Singapore's design strengths shone once again. This hotel, with its 143 rooms, was transformed into a "multisensory dreamscape," Lalvani recalled.

"Design and culture were woven into every detail, from immersive light installations to unexpected performance art, and guests were undoubtedly transported into a world that felt unequivocally Standard," he said. The "magic" of this event was made possible thanks to Eric Tobua's creative direction. The launch party generated immense social media buzz as invited guests, including artists, musicians, and fashion industry figures, captured and shared moments. This proved The Standard, Singapore's potential to establish itself as a hub of culture and art, not just a hotel.

The Synergy of Design and Experience: The Key to Creating Unforgettable Memories

Amy Lu, General Manager of The Standard, Singapore, stated that the hotel's creative energy will lead to numerous enjoyable activities in the future. Immediately on June 29, they will host a Pup-Up Club event, offering guests and their pets a chance to play, interact, and relax together.

Lu also added, "We will be launching new menus at Kaya, and exciting collaborations with local artists and creators are also planned. Expect interactive workshops, immersive showcases, and social events that serve as cultural playgrounds." This demonstrates the hotel's vision to function as a community hub and a venue for cultural exchange, beyond merely offering accommodation.

When asked whether interior design or guest experience programs are more crucial in creating a positively memorable hotel, Lu replied that both "go hand in hand."

"Design is the first connection that draws you in. A visually stunning space sets the mood for conversation and memories, which become part of the experience. The faces that greet you, the unexpected surprises, and how that moment makes you feel – that’s what makes the difference between an ordinary stay and an unforgettable one," she told TTG Asia. In essence, while beautiful design determines the first impression and raises expectations, what truly lingers in visitors' memories is the service and interactions experienced within that space. The Standard, Singapore is dedicated to elevating both these elements to the highest level, providing a truly immersive experience.

Discovering Singapore's Hidden Charms Through Partnerships: A Gateway for Curious Travelers

Now that the grand opening has concluded, Lu and her team are actively collaborating with travel partners who share a passion for fresh and meaningful travel.

"Beyond simply booking rooms, we want to co-create experiences. We will curate tours of the surrounding areas and in-hotel adventures that reveal Singapore's creative soul. We see our hotel as a gateway to the city's art, culture, and design scene, and a starting point for curious travelers to explore the local landscape and their own sense of wonder," Lu emphasized.

The Standard, Singapore aims to be more than just a design hotel; it positions itself as a platform for uncovering Singapore's hidden charms and offering visitors deep cultural experiences. These efforts are expected to provide new inspiration and unforgettable memories for creative travelers worldwide visiting Singapore. Attention is now focused on what new vitality The Standard, Singapore will bring to Singapore's art, culture, and design scene in the future.
